^^^ this was the biggest look Kanye had as a rapper at this point. NOBODY was featuring Kanye at this point even on the songs he produced. Here is Jay featuring Kanye on a Timbo track. "Bu, bu, this was after Kanye was producing hit records". Kanye didn't have hit records before Jay's "Izzo".

Truth is, no one at Roc was really f*cking with Kanye as a rapper until he made noise on his own.

Dame gave him a deal, but still wouldn't give him a budget to record his album, until after the accident when everyone started buzzing about who Kanye was. Kanye was paying for his own recording and doing sh*t at home because he couldn't get the label to invest in him. People just wanted him to keep making beats. Dude was signed and still recording most of the first album in his crib.

Yeah we literally saw the documentary where Ye was sneaking into studios to record TCD and they didn’t give him a release date until after the accident. Dame believed in him more than Jay but he didn’t 100% believe in him until the car crash.

It’s only natural for people to have to show & prove themselves. I don’t know why this would be a slight at jigga. There’s a hierarchical duty that kanye has to fulfill first. Cam would say this cause he never really popped the same way jay did.

Truth.

Kanye said that he was told Dame only signed him because he wanted his beats in-house, and saw other labels having meetings with him. Gee said the same, that Dame wanted to have first pick of the beats because that became the sound of the Roc.

Dude got signed and still had to operate like an unsigned artist. Doing open mics and doing his own mixtapes and sh*t. Everything he had on The College Dropout, was sh*t that he put together on his own because he couldn't get the label to help. He was getting features from other MC's just by being cool with them, but that's usually the kinda sh*t your label does for you. He did all of that on his own without any backing from Roc.

Of course you know more than the people who were signed to the label at the time....
