Don't see if this was addressed but we had a big thread over Kaep's hat, so this deserves some discussion.

Newton came out and said he is a Falcons fan every day of the year but two. How would yall feel if your starting QB said that about a division rival?

For me, that shyt doesn't fly, for numerous reasons. But the most obvious being the Falcons success hurts the teams chances to make the playoffs and prosper further.

Of course the ATL
Cam Newton, who grew up in the greater Atlanta area, was naturally raised a Falcons fan.

But the quarterback, despite playing for the Falcons' division rival Carolina Panthers, is still a Falcons fan with the exception of the two times a year the NFC South teams battle, Newton told The Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

"It's always a heavily critiqued game," Newton said of the rivalry. "I've always been a Falcons fan, and I'm still a Falcons fan except for those two times a year."

The already bitter Panthers-Falcons rivalry intensified last year as the teams split the season series, 1-1. Atlanta took the first game with a comeback win in October, which Newton didn't take well.

After the game, Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy and others were upset when television cameras caught Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan cursing at the Panthers sideline, telling them to get off the Falcons' field.

Newton and the Panthers (then 3-9) got revenge in the second game, dominating the playoff-bound Falcons (then 11-1) in December. Hardy took advantage of the win and continued the trash-talking extravaganza as he walked off the field.

Newton's admission of his support of the Panthers' bitter rival may cause uproar similar to—and possibly worse than—what San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick saw after he was seen wearing a Miami Dolphins cap at a Fourth of July party.

Kaepernick, however, never admitted to being a "fan" of the Dolphins. Furthermore, the 49ers and Dolphins play in different conferences, so no rivalry exists.

He sounds like most Panthers fans, they our biggest fans, Panthers brehs don't wanna relive 2010 in Charlotte when there were more Falcons fans than Panthers. They our sons & so is Scam

Yeah, that shyt was cool when Cam was a kid and in college, but you in the NFL now and that's your rivals.

Can't be on some "I love the Falcons!" when you're looking up at them from the cellar every year.

As long as dude goes out and performs with the team that he plays for, his boyhood team is irrelevant.

Thats like you being a big 49ers fan..your whole life. Then just because youre drafted to another team youre supposed to stop rooting for them?

I`m not even really against him being a fan, i`m more against him being dumb enough to say he is a fan.

You have to know as the starting QB of a team you can't say stuff like this. It does nothing to help you or your team.

But it doesnt do anything to hurt your team either. As long as dude shows up and plays to his potential there shouldnt be an issue.

:stunnadahell:You didn't get the memo, breh? Fans own these players. Once you get drafted you forfeit your past and right to independant thought and freedom of speech. If you're every action doesn't take into account the fanaticism of delusional losers with a false sense of entitlement then you dun fukked up. It's all about that shield :blessed:

Lemme get this straight, y'all been around since 1966 and won the division 5 times with one Super Bowl appearance. The Panthers have been around since 1995 and won the division 3 times with one Super Bowl appearance (more recently) and they're you're sons?:ohhh:

It does though, because essentially Cam is saying I want Atlanta to go 14-2.

He says he roots from them every day but 2, so in his world he hopes the Falcons are always 14-2. He has to see how that effects his team

:dwillhuh: hes rooting for the team he has always rooted for. Why should he give up his allegiance in a team hes spent 20+ years rooting for just because he wears a different uniform.

It doesnt matter if he cheers them on, as long as hes not helping them win. He suits up for the Panthers, plays for the Panthers. End of story. It literally has nothing to do with whether or not his team wins or loses or his performances.

Not really, because no one is saying he can't be a Falcons fan.

The real discussion is that what you want your starting QB saying.

It's like the CEO of McDonlads saying how much he loves Wendy's, that's your direct competition. He may love Wendy's still, but as an adult in professional setting you have to act like a professional and keep that shyt on the hush.
