Nah.

Lord Finesse chopped an old sample into a million pieces and made a beat. Everything else on the beat was just his drums and effects. But Finesse had already cleared the sample in '95, and had the beat registered with BMI for The Awakening back then.

He wasn't using anything unauthorized. Finesse was good. He reached out to Mac to handle it without going to court, but then the middlemen got involved and the label wanted to get paid off of Mac too, so that's why they kicked the sh*t all the way up to like $10M.

That was what Mac Miller said after talking to Finesse about it, its hard to find actual proof online either way.

Finesse is dope, I'm more on his side but nothing came of that lawsuit and theres probably a reason for that.

I remember, Finesse said Tommy Boy had cleared that in the 90's. But even if they didn't, you can't take his whole beat and roll with it, lol.

Problem was, when Penalty and Tommy Boy found out about the issue, they got their own lawyers and wanted to capitalize on suing for way more money than needed. So they started going after Rostrum and everybody involved, even Datpiff. It got out of control and out of Finesse's hands at that point.

I'm an old head from the 90s era of Rap. Mac was all that. There's a video of him on a late night show where he brings together a bunch of indie talent. He will be missed.

Lol I didn't realize it was Tommy Boy. That explains it.

I didn't love Mac Miller music at the time and still don't really get it but he always seemed like a very kind and respectful person

I didn't like Mac at the time but felt like Finesse was just being a hater for that. It wasn't the first time a beat was lifted for a mixtape at all lol seemed a bit greedy when everyone is doing it

Makes sense that labels ran with it and made it into a much bigger thing

I swear Arianna is evil. And yea. Everyone that knew Mac knew he was a cool nikka. Only person that had issues with son was Lord Finesse. I didn't fukk wit that shyt he did to Mac back then and I still don't. No disrespect to Lord Finesse tho I know his sister.
I dont like blaming Ariana. When someone you love is in the throes of addiction, you have to separate yourself from them if they aren’t willing to help themselves and get clean.

Their addictions will take you down with them. She tried her best, but at some point you have to take care of yourself. She broke up from the drugs

Finesse is one of my OG's. He's an only child.

what i wanna know is with alllll the people who said mac helped them and he was a good dude, how was dude basically getting extorted for them drug prices by junkies buying 10 a pop to him to resale knowing all the street rappers from cali he fukked with… really?

He shoulda been able to get real..never mind the fact I saw those prices n fake pills at that… didnt need to happen. He 100% was being taken advantage of.

Noone coulda hooked this kid up? Dying off a pill addiction delivered to ya LA home…I know poor people with better connections.

Most the overdoses in game are cuz guys are buying street drugs when they down and out. This guy was rich and dealing with scuzz balls buying 10 blues at a time to resale to him like a teenager at top dollar.. with prostitutes to his rich kid cali home still cant get good work? Wtf is going on out there?

It was sucka shyt by Finesse. Cause u know how many nikkas was doing shyt like that wit mixtapes? All them G Unit tapes and the list goes on? He sued him cause he was a lil white boy. shyt could've been handled way different.

It's not sucka shyt it's business.

Mac had the song on different platforms and it was registered on BMI. You can't call it a mixtape song when you're collecting royalties on it.

Mac was profiting off a beat Finesse made without crediting him. He spoke to Mac directly and said he didn't understand the business aspect so he had to get at Mac's label or whoever handles his business. They weren't moving correct so it spiraled into a lawsuit.

Finesse did nothing wrong unless you think it's okay to use someone's beat, profit off it, and not pay them.

Once Mac's people decided to platform the song a call should have been made to clear it with Finesse and credit him so he could eat. It's no longer a mixtape/promotional song. They stole his beat but he's wrong? That logic ain't holding up.

It’s still h0e shxt but from what I remember Mac was running with it as a single and not just a mixtape joint. As a Hip Hop head though, I feel like it could have still been handled more diplomatically, but business is business.
So basically it was h0e sh!t on Mac’s end, friend.
