This is such a better scenario than my Lakers and JJ Redikk. We're legit cooked on the West.

Mazzulla isn't a "Head Coach" to me. It's a lot of very basic rotations and out of bounds plays.

He lives and dies by a) the talent of JT and the 3-point shooting of White and Pritchard (I'm not mentioning Brown - he matters but it's the 3 point shooting that really matters here and he has 116 this year vs the other 3 all having +250) b) the veterain leadership of Horford and Jrue c) favorable reffing

He's a "Head Motivational/Stoic Speaker"more than anything.
I don't see him do much more than having basic predictable rotations (he'll usually play Porzingis it doesn't matter how good or useless he plays) and having a few smart out-of-bounds plays, but nothing crazy.

He is -in fact- learning on the job. But respect to the org and the team - it got them a chip. And I can't stand the Celtics (or the Asterisk Champs the Warriors with KD era) but Rings matter.

I think he's more of a X's and O's and theoretical guy who intellectually understands basketball, but he's not a Head Coach. To be an elite head coach, you need to have to have a FEEL for the game, and be a play caller in the moment, which Joe Mazzulla is unable to do. He keeps harking back to saying "It's a math game, 3 is better than 2"... when he's neglecting the other side of math which a 2 pointer has a higher percentage of going in than a 3 pointer does

What makes this game 5 even worse is that all the moves he made in the game where because of circumstances out of his control. He only started to play Kornet extended minutes because Porzingis literally could not breath, or else he would have trotted Porzingis in the game and they most likely would have lost. He only played Pritchard extended minutes in this game because Jrue got in foul trouble. He continued to play Jayson Tatum 20-24 minutes straight in the entire second half through out the 1st and 2nd round, when it was obvious Jayson needed a breather and there were capable bench players who could give him a rest, which contributed to his achilles injury. The only game the Knicks played great start to finish was Game 4, and even in that game they were down double digits. This series could have easily been a 4-1 win for the Celtics

This entire series is an indictment on Joe Mazzulla

I don’t think it’s an overreaction at all to say that Mazzulla refusing to bench Porzingis played a major role in the Celtics losing this series

Crazy thing is the narrative building up is Celtics are better off without Tatum, the real reason was Porzingis being a net negative that was really hampering the Celtics. Joe should've realized this after game 2.

It finally looks like he threw KP in the bushes for Kornet. Will Kornet have another big game tomorrow? I don't think so but it's clear whatever illness is plaguing him is making KP unplayable

Thing is we don’t even need Kornet to have 5+ blocks a night or give us 10+ points, we just need him to not be a liability on both ends like Porzingis has been

If he turns up on either end like we saw in G6, that’s just a bonus

I haven't been impressed by the Knicks at all these playoffs.
They've done just enough to get by. I don't think it's a lock at all they get to the conference finals, even without Tatum playing.

If they do, I'm not 100% sure they would beat the Pacers in a 7 game series. They're legit 9-10 deep and Carlisle would coach a circle around Thibs

Pacers easily handles the knicks cuz most importantly they have the personnel to take advantage of Brunson and Towns in the pick and roll

Breh I get it, this series ain’t going the way you want it to, but if your plan for the Celtics success is Luke Kornet outplays both KAT and Mitch it’s not a great plan, not even a good one. Yesterday was an insane job by the refs. Those motherfukkers had a prerogative and did what they did.

The refs are gifting ya’ll life cause Tatum just got injured and the new team owner sitting baseline like he was yesterday.

Once I understood the bigger picture I ain’t even mad they fixed that game for y’all. If that new Celtics owner just spent a couple of billion dollars for the team, not even the stadium, just the team and I had to watch them lose in game 5 cause the best player got a season long injury. He legit could freak the fukk out.

It feels like you just needed to vent about last nights game bc I never said the plan is for Kornet to outplay them

I’m saying all we need from Kornet is not to be a liability on the court, to not be a net negative on both ends of the court like Porzingis has been all playoffs. That bare minimum is all he needs to provide to be an upgrade over the guy whose minutes he’s taking

You bringing up refs and shyt :skip:

He’s been one of the better backup centers in the league all season. Obviously last night was by far his best game of the season, but for the most part this season he’s played his role good.

He might not ever have a game like that again but like I said as long as he’s not a complete liability on both ends he’s an upgrade over what the Latvian has done
