For me, among the biggest travesties in recent NBA history is him getting multiple DPOY awards (think about it, Ewing or Pippen never got ONE...hell Lebron deverses one more than Dwight) and being called the "best" center.

Some guy said it perfectly in some thread, he must be the worst "best" player at his position ever Dude woukd be an afterthought in the 90s, Olajuwon, Shaq, Ewing, Mourning, Robinson would shyt on him, hell even Smits, and other "second-tier" centers would have him foul out in 20 mins

all his defensive stats would disappear if he had someone to actually guard.. imagine this smiling idiot having to step out n guard even a old fatass like sabonis, cuz that big zangief mothafukker was money from 15

I'm a Dwight fan to the fullest but there's no way he can get to top five status. Is he surpassing Cap Wilt Bill Hakeem and Shaq? No i don't think so. Then in the second tier you have Ewing David Robinson Moses(who has a legitimate argument as being top 5) and Zo to get by. Now he could get that sixth spot ahead of Moses but he would really have to ball out for the next 5 years and get like 3 rings to do it. Not saying its impossible but he's really gonna have to turn it on if he wants to surpass these players. The only one he may have surpassed at this point is Zo.

sure he is "the best center in the nba now" but that's not saying much....best against who? who's his comp? easy to beast when there are basically only two nice centers in the league...

The league is full of really good centers right now.

It's easy to think the 90's was great because Shaq, Hakeem, Ewing and Zo were there, and their isn't four stars like that, but that doesn't mean the other 25 teams had great centers. The position was thin then too.

I can't believe people and the media actually thought Dwight is a great defender, LoL. To me he was never an elite defender because of the NBA has been lacking talent in the center position for many years. His defense was put to test against Gasol in the Finals and Gasol ran full-circle around Dwight with crafty footworks.

Dwight is overrated and overhyped.

Of course. He can be better than Shaq. Defense is more important for a center than offense especially if their as great as Dwight at it. Look at Bill Russell for example.

Dwight should have never won more than one defensive player of the year award. The media and coaches have the tendencies to overlook perimeter players and will give front-court players the most credit for anchoring defense. One of those dpoy awards that Dwight had won should have gone to Wade in 08.
