when new york, jersey and philly had hip hop on smash in the 90's, hip hop was at it's peak! i miss those days
things have never been the same and nowhere near as nice as when the north had hip hop on lock in the 90's

A lot of cats on here feel the same way. But they hide behind threads like "why is NY copying other people and the problem with NY right now is etc".

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
It's funny because I've always loved music from different regions. Always knew people who loved music from different regions. I grew up in the 90's so Bone thugs got mad love up here. I always find it funny when people say NY never had any love for any other region, because it was always the opposite for people I knew. I just think the internet changed everything. I don't think a regional sound exists today.
What u remember is the truth. What people say is bullshyt propaganda that anyone who actually grew up in NY can dispute.

This is an industry/corporatisation problem...not a region problem...the southern music from the 90's is lightyears better than todays...say if the 90's southern music had never existed and that was what they were putting out now as new music...i wouldn't have a problem

That doesn't make much sense but i hope you catch my drift

The Ummah!
Hell yeah

I miss when the south was a niche.

I'm sick of everything sounding trap influenced.

This,

Hip Hop is NY and NY is Hip Hop. The south had classic groups like Kast and UGK, You have to respect them, they're GOAT level rappers. But now its strange to see whats happened. It's like NY the home team and Sold out the stadium to home fans for years, and now the stadium is owned operated by the visiting team , and all the fans in the crowd are cheering the other team (the south). But whatever, I can get jiggy to the new sound :manny: Thugger the GOAT

It's not just New York doing that too. The "southern sound" is synonymous to the "modern sound."

I feel ya breh. I came to the conclusion the other day that from a musical perspective, regionalism in Hip-Hop was actually a good thing (minus radio stations who totally shutout other regions).

as much as i like to clown Ny b/c they stay losing, Most of my personal favorite rappers are from NY (jay 50 DMX )

i think the best era was from the late 90's to 05 when every region did its own thing but Ny was still on top.

guys like future and drake are on top now
future from atlanta and drake from toronto
i guess guys like future and drake are runnin' run
the artists that have been runnin' the game since the 90's? it's been a wide range of muthafukkas
we talkin' bout hip hop, period. shyt that's everywhere from the clubs to the streets
but most of it was from the south a bit after hte early 00's kicked in. its been on a southern run ever since. and its not about who's doing what its about the sound. the sound was a southern sound that other artists from other regions hopped on. now you have it some what spread out evenly with the pop stars being from the south, west, i guess you can call toronto north, and some new east artists popping. and let me not forget the chi. right now you have a chi cadence with a southern beat. unless you're listening to kendric, cole, or drake band(he doesnt write his songs. so i call him a band.)

The southern sound is actually DJ uneek's la based sound, to be honest.

Which is why every now and then a la based pop producer can make a hit in rap..or a Hollywood pop producer who studies the so-called southern sound or DJ uneek's sound mixed with pop sentiments or Sonics. Will show up with a hit record that is paid for and made to look organic
Which are all lifts of ruthless post dre and dre post ruthless style work.

If a southern record leans or anything after that.
it may lean on pimp c's organ work or just straight jack lay'em down.
Which also reminds others of pimp c's organ style melodies too.
