Can I leverage a job offer into a raise at my current job?

man, got an update. so my old job told me to apply a few months ago for this senior position that I wanted. I did the phone interview and killed it. then a week later, they are talking bout "thanks for applying, but take your application and hit the :bushess:"

anyways, about a month ago, I find out the senior position is still available cuz ol girl I know who had it left and went to work at another hospital. so the job is back on the market. then to boot, the manager, emailed me to see if I was interested. so I went ahead and applied again (for the second time), and they hit me back to do a phone interview (again) which happens tomorrow.

like I said, I am ONLY taking this job (given they give me an actual interview and an offer) if it comes with about a 10K increase from what I'm currently making working at the home (still won't be at six figures like ya'll coli nikkas, but I will be :eat:). I'm not giving up a lack of commute, and all the convenience of being able to come and go as I please unless they really make it worth my while. I do know for a fact that the vacation time is better if I do change positions. and since I last worked there, they moved offices, so the commute ain't nearly as bad as what it was when I last worked there. also, if I can get them to give me 1-2 days working at home, I will try that as well.

also, the reason I can be as fukking arrogant about my demands is cuz I'm working from a position of power (I have a job working from home, so I don't NEED this job). and also, its a job that has to do with a specific type of software that hospitals use to track patient utilization, quality metrics and patient safety metrics, and it's hard for them to find people who know the software really well which I do since I currently work for the company that manufactures it. also, I'm familiar with their hospital, the culture and how it works. so yeah, I totally think I'm worth that extra 10K.

@beaniemac
I moved to the Carolinas.
also, given what you say.
you are actually worth more than the increase they are proposing in the front end.

I work for a hospital system now, and work at home 1-2 times a week. my new company makes the software that I use currently at this job. but since I will be working with multiple hospital systems at the new gig, there's no reason for me to be in an office. plus, the office is in tennessee and arizona I believe. They are gonna ship me a VOIP phone, laptop, printer, and blackberry.

thinking back, I should NOT have even debated in making a decision. my boss was laying a guilt trip on me making me question my decision which is based on sound logic :snoop:

man I was the last person left of a team of 4. none of which they replaced or really even tried to replace. so I was doing 4 people's job. then they started denying all my vacation request cuz I'm the only person in the company with my specific job all the while letting EVERYONE in my department go on multiple vacations this summer. so as everyone is finding out I'm leaving they are like all saying "you are doing the right thing cuz they were trying to fukk u over". my company is short sighted. They could have EASILY matched my current job offer, but by not, not only do they have to bring in temp workers to cover my stuff, but they gotta pay me more for my vacation time than the 8K in raises I was getting in the first place.

You are in the health care field and IT/vendor, you got job security wherever you go, what are you worrying about?

Plus the U.S. govt is pushing hard for everyone to go electronic, from charting, prescriptions, and medical records.

I know people who work in the hospital (they all had to be trained on a paper free e-system or another) and plus I know a dude who became a millionaire created his own software that he sells to hospitals.

Take the gig.

No reason to be timid, e-health/health informatics is a really hot field that no one has caught on to yet.

yeah, since I first made this thread, I ended up taking that job. but now the old spot might hire me back to do my original job. and I do want to work for a hospital group again. but I'll only do it if they make it worth my while and pony up the money since I currently work at home and this job is very very convenient for me.
