TLR is like a Wild West with little moderation and unfortunately can serve as an outlet for people to say things online they wouldn't have the balls to say in person. HL is better but obviously discusses different issues. Ignoring them is an option. A concerted push for stronger moderation may help as well. No site wants to lose ad dollars due to a few people that can't control themselves.

Girl, find other areas of the site. TLR is just that way. When I got irritated with TLR I found myself in the booth & the film room. It's just the way some dudes here are.
