This is why people in St. Louis aren't mad about him leaving (anymore at least, people were mad initially). We got 3 MVPs and some of the best seasons in history out of him and didn't hamstring the franchise for 10 years for a player on the clear decline.

But as others have said, he is old.

Because he got old.

:what:

This is what a natural progression for a baseball player looks like.
Everybody isn't Barry Bonds on the juice in his late 30s.

naw, he got old right away. he was completely irrelevant this first year with the Angels

When he damn near ended Brad Lidge's career before his resurgence with the Phillies :picard::wow::blessed:

They were one out away I think from going to the World Series (they still won the NLCS in 6, but still). I was hoping that would be the momentum we needed to come back in the series.

He went from a 5.3 WAR season in STL to a 4.8 WAR season in LA.

Then he had injuries and stopped being good/all star caliber last year -- at age 36.

He's old as fukk now. Everyone knew the contracts of guys like Pujols, Fielder etc would be trash on the back end. Pujols wasn't even worth it on the front end even though he has been decent. He just seems like a failure because he was supposed to still be an MVP level player.

Give a ten year contract to a guy who already played 11 seasons and is older than his listed age :francis:
