Jay wanted out because he realized that he couldn't be in full control and could be overruled on things by dame and biggs. Cam was never made VP officially, he just ran with it like Cam does with those type of things but dame and biggs had no problem with that move.

Dame and Jay really stopped fukking with each other before the Blueprint album honestly. They kept up appearances in public, but they stopped fukking with each other a good 4-5 years before it was official. I know because I had family friends working there at the time.
And they just grew apart philosophically. It wasn't one incident to point to. Just a combination of their mentalities being way different then they were when they first started together.

Jay trusted Lyor and Def Jam. Dame was jealous. Stoute was REALLY about next level got in Jay ear and got him a huge shoe deal and showed him more than music. Dame was jealous.

I personally didn't see it as a breakup, I just saw that Jay-Z grew older and mature and didn't want to deal with a loud Dame screaming on everyone, being a nikka, not allowing people to make mistakes (imagine working for a boss that won't allow you to mess up). He just wanted to do his own thing, become more corporate and professional & not split the money 3 ways anymore. It's clear he learned from Lyor, Russ & Kevin Liles.......
