This is the true reason.
Jay has always had a complex, he always needed validation of being the greatest and the one in charge because hes insecure. He also wasnt really down with the whole comradery angle the way Dame was. Lyor exploited the chink in the Rocs armor, and Dame knowing there were problems, put too much faith in Jay's loyalty (of which he has none) and thought they would eventually patch things up. Lyor got in Jays ear and offered him that "legendary" status Jay craved so much along with promise of more riches than he thought he could get with Dame. Jay took the bait and the rest is history. CACs and greed win.
Fact is, the Roc could have been a game changer for our people had they stuck it out. Dame had excellent vision.

You're missing the bigger picture breh and just going with the narrative Jay fans like to go with, he could've had all that... as his own shyt.....it wasn't like Jay reached his ceiling and Dame and co. were holding him back.
To think that Dame,Jay and Biggs couldn't have continued to build, is just pure delusion.... they literally had a gold mine of talent under them, that pretty much got gifted back to Def Jam/UMG for next to nothing.
So what did he lose out on? being an actual Boss of his own shyt....like Baby and Slim.

they already weren't owners tho.... they sold 50% of rocafella a long time ago... those 3 combined, owned just as much as def jam as a company... then add that on top of they are distributed by def jam as well. that's two checks to def jam, 1 check to the roc and you split that check with 3 people
