Can someone break down the history of REDMAN's gangster and why so many rappers were shook of him?

I always hear about rappers either being shook of redman in the early 90's or testifying to his gangster, could someone give me a history as to why that was/is?

I don't doubt it at all, I've just never read/watched or heard anything about it.

His crew was the pistol packing posse or something? (first time I heard of them was the prodigy thread that was made today, and dudes was also saying redman was a dusted out lunatic back in those days)

He's from Newark breh and while Newark is wild now it was REALLY wild back in the early 90s.

redman was a regular street dude... never really hear he was some crazy ruthless killer drug overlord or anything... but he was a regular newark dude...
the thing is really that a few rappers who were super thugging on record in reality were not anywhere near the level of a regular guy from the hood...
only person i really remember red getting into it with was mobb deep, and as far as i remember it was keith murray who actually put hands on dude

I remember Nas calling him out because of the Christina Aguilera track, and then Red released a mixtape called Ill at Will like a play on Nas' fallen comrade's name. Around the same time, the I'll Be Dat video dropped and Cormega was in it which made it seem even more like a beef considering Nas' issues with him. Like a month or two later there was a pic in a magazine with both of them in the studio. I've always wondered about the story behind all of that.

Real talk, Red is top 20 all time, and I wouldn't be argumentative if someone said top 5 or 10.
