Can someone break down the history of REDMAN's gangster and why so many rappers were shook of him?

I remember Nas calling him out because of the Christina Aguilera track, and then Red released a mixtape called Ill at Will like a play on Nas' fallen comrade's name. Around the same time, the I'll Be Dat video dropped and Cormega was in it which made it seem even more like a beef considering Nas' issues with him. Like a month or two later there was a pic in a magazine with both of them in the studio. I've always wondered about the story behind all of that.

Real talk, Red is top 20 all time, and I wouldn't be argumentative if someone said top 5 or 10.

your time line seems a bit fukked up, I'll Bee Dat was on Doc's Da Name from 98, the Aguilera track is from 2002 and Ill At Will is from 2004.

He wasn't deep in the streets or anything. He was just the first rapper to bring the dust blunt vibe to rap.
He was also the first rapper to embrace the idea of being psychotic and make it believable. I thought Geto Boys and Onyx were dope but I could tell they were putting on an act.

Redman was a street nikka, but his gangster was because nikkas knew he wasn't frauding when he rapped, like he'd really come see you on some street shyt, plus he ran with some wild nikkas (The Twinz and the Pistol Packing Posse).

Red was a wild nikka back in the day. Like most nikkas for Newark are known to be.

Ill At Will is def from 2004 and I'll Bee Dat is def from 98. i'd say you prob saw the I'll Bee Dat video on BET or something around the time Ill At Will was coming out and just put 2+2 together not realising it was from 98. it wouldn't surprise me if Nas called him out about the Dirty track but i think Ill At Will is a play on Ice Cube's EP rather than Nas' boy

Redman is no thug. He just looked scary and acted the part well until his true persona was allowed to flourish.

that said, the biggest PJ's I've ever seen and been in personally were the Bricks. QB might be bigger but the Bricks were crazy.
