Can someone explain the backlash George Lucas got from SW fans?

The prequels were shytty and his tinkering with the originals was seen as heresy.
Mostly it is just that Star Wars fans are some of the most hardcore fanboy maniacs in the world.

Word that explains everything and why smarter nerds prefer Star Trek.

Still Star Wars > Star Trek to me off the invention of the lightsaber alone.

This is why us grown ass men can't get enough.

Sword + Laser = Popular Science magazine dream come true.

We love bad ass weaponry. Real nicca shyt.

Can you imagine a nicca trying to rob you on your way home and the look on his face when you pull out the lightsaber?
If you cant block bullets like a Jedi, you're still going to get Earthed, friend. Then he'll take your lightsaber. Unless of course you point it at him, point blank and hit the power button. Its so demonic, friend.

The sad truth people don't realize is Star Wars was always corny campy and made for kids.

The dialogue was always terrible, acting was always bad for the most part, but at the time it came out it was accepted because the world was different, also the visually presentation was leaps and bounds beyond anything that was on film at the time.

The visually effects in the prequels though were new techniques at the time, had no wow factor to the them, so all you had to focus on was the terrible dialogue and bad acting, which was also in the originals.

Unless star wars finds away to revolutionize film making and create a new visual experience for the audience these new movies will be garbage too

While I agree with you on the corny and campy stuff I got say "made for kids" is bs, mostly. It's kid friendly in many places, it got robots, light sabers, Chewie and a space battle.

But it also has around 30 red shirts getting killed, Luke's uncle and aunt burnt to crisp, Obi-Wan cutting a dudes hand off, Han shooting Greedo up close, love triangle that turns into incest in later movies, Luke seeing his mentor killed, whole planet getting blown up, force choking and whatever this torture devise is

They were made for kids, but most of his billions came from adults. He changed/retconned/canonized anything and everything about Star Wars for an extra buck. He :skip: his entire fan base with a no fukks given mentality. The real source of the hatred is that Star Wars has a lot of potential (which is realized in video games, cartoons, books, and comics) and Lucas didn't care if he tapped into it or not. All he ever saw was the easy $$$.

it all boils down to nostalgia

Basically. It's really just a bunch of fanboy's thinking they know how to make a better Star Wars movie than the man who created, wrote and directed it. The Lucas hate is way overblown and when he dies, he will be considered a Legendary Icon of film. But the hate started with the "Special Editions". What people need to realize is that Lucas vision for Star Wars was way larger than what the Effects could accomplish when the original came out. Though it was still revolutionary what he did, he knew that when technology caught up he could change what he wanted. Fanboys didn't like the changes but all them weren't that bad. The only mistake Lucas made was for years he didn't release the original versions on DVD. That was foul and I won't give him a pass for that. It was just trying to force his new edits onto the world.

But at the end of the day He's the creator of Star Wars. There is no Star Wars without him. Also my generation who grew up on the original Star Wars hated on the Prequels when those movies weren't for my generation but a new generation and it worked. A whole new generation of Star Wars fans came in off the Prequels and The Clone Wars Animated Series. "Episode I and II" were uneven and had flaws but he was going in handicapped anyway cause we already knew how the story would end. We also had over 20 years of watching and loving the original 3 films. "Episode III" was good and tied into the original Trilogy perfectly. Even though I grew up on the originals, I never personally had a problem with Prequels cause I knew going in they wouldn't top the originals. They mostly were for filling in the back story.

Also Jar Jar was for kids period. The same way Ewoks were for kids like me in the 80's. I remember so many adults hating on the Ewoks the same way Adults hated on Jar Jar. They use to call them "Teddy Bears in the Forrest". Also there's been some revisionist history about "Empire Strikes Back". It's a Classic movie no doubt but it was not considered the Best Star Wars movie. The original "Star Wars" had better reviews than Empire, Grossed more at the box office and won 7 Academy Awards and was nominated for 10. The original "Star Wars" actually works as a stand alone movie. "Empire" though great got mixed reviews when it came out, dropped in Box Office from the original and had a cliffhanger ending that made the movie incomplete until "Jedi" came out. The fact is the original "Star Wars" which Lucas wrote and directed is the most iconic film of the series. Also just cause Irvin directed "Empire" doesn't mean Lucas wasn't involved. This was Lucas baby, he was there every step of the way. I love "Empire", it's probably the greatest sequel of all time up there with "Godfather II" and "Terminator II". But it did not have more impact on film than the original "Star Wars" did. The bottom line, the fanboys hating on Lucas is pointless. There would be no Star Wars for you love without him. When the books are written, he will be a Legendary Icon that changed filmmaking forever.

He changed his mind awful quick. But then again, if Disney came to my door with $4 billion, I'd probably change my mind too.

Lucas: "$4 billion? :ohhh: Yeah, I think I can come up with an outline of 7, 8, and 9 for you. Give me 10 minutes. :myman:"
Disney: :dj2:
