Can someone explain to me why name dropping is an issue?

Bc game crow-bars it into verses for no reason other than to fill dead air. Like everything else he does it always sounds forced, inorganic, poorly timed, and poorly executed. Its cool to see rappers show love and shout eachother out but game has a way of making you cringe when he does it. It doesnt feel real (just like his freestyles and gang affilationS). Theres no salt in my diet and im never on some hater shyt but ill call an ace an ace all damn day; game is trash. Hes a guy who thought rap needed another "i think im el chapo" song in 2015

Just internet nerds tryna find something to hate on. They clown him for his fukkery, namedropping, bring up that dumb stripper crap 15 years later and then he drops a dope album and they all shut up.

I enjoy quite a bit of the Game's music but even back when he dropped the Documentary, we always made fun of how he would mention Dr Dre in every sentence. Then One Blood came out and the first words of that song were "Yo Dre":mjlol:

Its a crutch and its filler. He has no point to the name dropping other than to fill up bars.

I fukk with the game and the namedropping doesnt bother me but it is an appropriate criticism

This. It's like a freestyle rapper from 2000 or so saying "I'll straight grab the mic and ..." Every other bar.

Good verses and songs can definitely be made using a crutch - but the crutch is still being used.

I don't care for it cause it dates the music and makes it pretty disposable down the road. 10 years later nobody's gonna recognize a majority of the pop culture references so it sort of defeats the purpose of listening to the music then. A name here and there is no big deal but every other bar is excessive. Listen to some rap tracks from the 90's that drop a lotta names and pop culture references to see how it works...
