Just hearing the sound of a pencil dragging across a sheet of paper, someone typing on a keyboard, or cardboard boxes being opened can all trigger this sensation. Its not necessarily sexual, although it can be, but it's not the goal of these videos. Theyre often used as a sleep aide or a stress reliever.
You may very well have a deep seated ASMR trigger and not even really thought about it yet. Isn't there some type of passive activity or ambient noise that makes you feel "good," almost "tingly," just hearing it?
I've had this since I was a child, A LONG TIME, before "ASMR" was even a thing people talked about. It was only when I was 19 or 20 that I saw people talking about it online. Until then I thought it was just me.
ASMR is a very real thing but, like with many things, it's become sexualised over the years as people realised that there was a big audience for it. At this point, I would guess that at least 50% of the content creators and viewers don't really experience the sensation but are purely in it for their own reasons.
