Dmx was opening for Jay-z on Jays tour, Jay had 1 album selling as much as 2(!) Dmx albums and Jay had hit singles + the fact that his second album dropped in the last week of 98.

Eminem didn't release anything in 2001, MMLP came out in like the beginning of 2000.

50 cent didn't release anything in 2006 except the g-unit movie album which was ass and dropped in November 2005.

2009, the fukk did Wayne do?

If you 3 year old nikkas wanna come with arguments at least know your damn history.
2009 was Jay vs Em, 2001 was Jay vs Ja and 2006 Jay vs Tip. Now you Nas Stans might wanna tell yourselves that just cause never was close to being the hottest, Jay wasn't either.. Sorry.

It doesn't matter, Em was still hotter, same goes for 50. Also lets not forget Kanye from 2004 until now. More people were talking about their different moves and so on. You mean to tell me more people were talking about Jay in 2006 then 50? Hell no Jay had a few weeks up until the release of KC and when it dropped everybody laughed at it and it dropped 80% second week

Name 1 year since 96 that he wasn't extremely relevant in the game..everyone you named besides wayne had short runs and then fell off, jay has consistently been at the top of the game, every couple years a new flash in the pan rapper comes along and then fades. Jay has lasted through all of those runs.

Also from 98-04 there's no question rap belonged to him, Dmx had his run but faded by his 3rd album, Jay sold 5 mil with Vol. 2, followed that up with the most successful tour in rap history that paved the way for rap acts to tour the way they do today, came right back with Vol. 3 and The Dynasty, and then completely shut it down with The Blueprint, he gave Nas an opportunity with that album/battle and Nas did what a great should do and stepped up and revived his career. There were more popular radio friendly acts that popped up during this run (Nelly, Ja Rule etc.) but the culture belonged to Jay/Rocafella.

He didn't have an unquestioned hottest newbie out rise like 50 but he also never fell off like 50 (live by, die by), Nelly had huge pop singles but no one ever considered him a serious rapper, these guys are in different categories, and Jay was the first one who could be compared to the street rappers and the pop acts and helped pave the way for dudes like Kanye who in turn paved the way for Wayne and Drake, to sum it up Jay had late 98 early 99, parts of 01 and 04 as undeniably the "hottest" rapper out and he is without question the most successful rapper ever followed by Em, who could've probably been more successful (not better) than Jay if he had the desire/greed to be
Exactly

And DMX did not fall off by his 3rd album. He didn't fall off til after 2003. The Great Depression dropped in 2001, sold over 400k the first week and went platinum in a month

Then his 5th album dropped and sold sold like 350 the first week, and debuted at number 1. He had 5 straight albums debut at number 1. His run wasn't short at all.

Nobody considered Nelly a serious rapper? You sure about that?

fact
[fakt] Show IPA
noun
1.
something that actually exists; reality; truth: Your fears have no basis in fact.
2.
something known to exist or to have happened: Space travel is now a fact.

-FACT - Biggie / Pac Dominated the 90s sales
-FACT - Eminem / Nelly Dominated the 2,000's sales
-FACT - Biggie, Pac, Eminem, 50, Luda, Nelly have more #1 hits than him
-FACT - Jay-Z sold the most albums only 1 year in his career, 2006 (Kindom come, worst album, top 5 players injured: 50, Kanye, Eminem, Wayne didn't drop albums)
-FACT - Eminem is the best selling rap artist of all time
-FACT - Biggie, Pac, Eminem average more platinum plaques per album than Jay
-FACT - Jay-Z only has the 16th best selling rap album of all time, Biggie, 2pac, Eminem all have albums in the top 10
-FACT - Eminem, Lil Wayne, 50 and almost Kanye, have all sold 1 million in their first week.. Something Jay-Z has openly said he wish he could do (but NEVER will)
-FACT - Lil Wayne has the most hits on the Billboard hot 100 of any rapper ever
-FACT - While Big / Pac were alive, Jay-Z never went better than platinum... He went Multi the year after Biggie released his last album.
-FACT - Jay-Z has 12 #1 albums... Graduation / Curtis were released on same day... Graduation #1 album.... Curtis #2 album.... American Gangster #1 album... Curtis outsold American Gangster. (translation, #1 album means NOTHING, the stats above are the meaningful stats)

Jay-Z on Tom Ford: "Numbers don't lie, Check the Scoreboard!"

I Checked the Scoreboard, he's down in ALL categories that matter:manny:

Wherever nikkas need to be told on
If I remember correctly, DMX was the hottest the late 90s for a few years.

Nelly was the hottest for the early 2000s a few years.

50 cent was the hottest for 2003-2005

06 I dont remember too much, but i know in 2007 das when wayne started taking over. not to mention Crank That came out that year.

After wayne came Drake.

what year was jay the hottest rapper in the game?

:heh:

1996 - All Eyez on Me (9x Plat), The Score (6mil), It Was Written (4mil) (reasonable what?)
1997 - Life after Death, No Way Out, Wu-Tang Forever, Harlem World
1998 - Dark and Hell is Hot, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, 400 Degreez (can make the Argument Vol 2 >> 400 Degreez, but its no doubt 1998 was X's / Lauryn's year.. Sales + classics wise)
1999 - Chronic 2001, And then there was X..., Slim Shady LP
2000 - Marshall Mathers LP, Country Grammer
2001* - Stillmatic, *Bluprint, Word of Mouth, Pain is Love
2002 - Nellyville, The Eminem Show
2003 - Get Rich or Die Trying, SpeakerBoxx / Love Below
2004 - The College Drop out, Encore
2005 - Late Registration, The Massacre, The Documentary
2006* - Food and Liqour, *Kingdom Come, Doctors Advocate, Hip Hop is Dead
2007 - Graduation, Curtis, T.I. vs TIP
2008 - Carter 3, Paper Trail
2009 - Relapse, Only built 4 Cuban lynx 2
2010 - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Recovery, Thank me Later
2011 - Carter 4, Take Care
2012 - Good Kid Madd City
2013 - *Soon to be Marshall Mathers LP 2 or Nothing was the same (sales wise)

The 2 years you can ARGUE for Jay?

2001, 2006:

2001: the Blueprint was outsold by Word of Mouth / Pain is love.. Plus it's the year he got "Ethered", and later ADMITTED he lost the BIGGEST RAP BATTLE IN HISTORY, "2nd place" (Stillmatic also went double platinum like the Blueprint to boot.. Advantage Nas)..

2006: Kingdom come was the best selling rap album that year... But that was a HISTORICALLY weak year for albums.. Many would say Kingdom come is one of (if not) Jays worst albums and that Doctors advocate was a close classic that year, and Food and Liqour was an actual classic. Complex calls kingdom come Jays worst solo album: http://www.complex.com/music/2013/07/ranking-jay-zs-albums-from-worst-to-best/kingdom-come

Nas "Hip Hop is Dead" was also a huge deal in 2006... (Kingdom Come being his worst album but one of his best selling can be attributed to a weak climate and Jay-Z doing Budwiser / HP commercials that year to promote it.)

And KingDom come was released on Nov 21 2006.....

So I can say "Most of his sales was in 2007" when Graduation would've shytted on it...

We not getting into no pissing match about "How many sales the rapper HAD in the year"....

Cus if we do that, Jay-Z didn't have ANY years sales wise:bryan:.... I'm giving him Kingdom Come (when the top 5 players --50, Kanye, Wayne, Eminem-- were injured.. It'd be like James Harden winning MVP with Lebron, Durant, Chris Paul and Kobe hurt:lolbron::russ:))

Stankonia was released late 2000... I can say that carried over to 2001 and >>>> BLueprint..

You know the SAME argument can be used to HURT JAY, right num nuts? (and when I use the argument against Jay, it actually turns out worse for him)

NONE OF US have data on how many albums were SOLD in a given year.... All we can do is go off what year an album was released (don't give a fukk if it was Dec 31st 2006....) and how many albums it sold....

No matter how you slice it, Jay still loses every year.....:lolbron:

so were gonna sit here and act like blueprint aint EASILY the biggest album of 01 and really the main album one attributes with that year? (sorry nas stans).

Its still platinum but it was one of the most bootlegged albums of all-time. he had to push it up TWO weeks after that vma performance because it leaked so bad and ended up being september 11th it released on. I still got the poster that says 9/25/01. and it was still #1 :jawalrus:

oh year i'm sure them commercials are the reason he sold and not because it was his first album after 3 years :beli:

and again you ignore TI and the King album.

2001 back when Blueprint came out, Jay was the hottest. Everyone was bumping that album. Jay had the commercial appeal and the streets on lock. He also had one of the best battles in hip hop history with Nas during that era. So much impact we still making Jay vs Nas threads over a decade later:wow:. Blueprint is one of the most respected hip hop albums of the 2000s.

Nelly and Eminem sold more in that era but nobody was calling Nelly the best emcee and Eminem had that "I like Eminem but I don't like rap music" fanbase. Em didn't touch the hip hop culture like Jay did with Blueprint.

Fact: DMX Dropped 2 albums in 1998 that both debuted at #1 .... 1 in May and 1 in December....

So to say Jay dropping Volume 2 on September 29 ( with only 3 MONTHS left in the year, when DMX was cooking since APRIL) was a hotter year than DMX is just desperation on JiggaWarriors parts...:bryan:

Lauryn Hill also dropped in August and sold 8 million..... Flesh of my Flesh + Dark and hell is hot = 2 #1 albums and 1 UNIVERSAL classic by critics and fans.... XXL, The Source, and every other reputable outlet said DMX brought street rap back and KILLED the "Shiney Suit Era" (The biggest era in the history of hiphop at the time)...

Yet, 1998 was Jay's year....:lolbron:

It's no way out on this one fellas...:umad:
