Benzino killed it with his lil beef with Eminem and Interscope... They had an obvious bias and it killed their credibility

thats what they want you to say.

i respected the source more after this.

all the mags are biased. but when somebody steps up and says something of substance, its a problem.

xxl to this day is basicaly interscope magazine. yet there still has yet to be any rallying cry.

Does anybody even check for the source anymore? I remember I always used to pick one up back in high school. It out me on to a lot of classic albums back then. These days I just see it sitting on the shelf and don't even take a look at it. Can't even say who's on the latest cover.

the source became irrelevant when mayes & benzino got the axe, even tho they were the guys that supposedly ruined it,

funny thing is, mayes & benzino are chitting on both the source & xxl now with hip-hop weekly. they put that mag out and started outselling the source & xxl almost immediately.

Didn't see your post please link me. I don't think these guys get it judging by their answers. This was some vindictive corporate takeover ish or a conspiracy or something deeper than what people seem to realize. I can't call it. All I remember was the owners of the Source started beefing with Eminem and the next thing you know they were no longer the owners. Ish is still crazy to me.

I know there is a relationship between Interscope and the XXL. If I'm not mistaken Interscope or interscope's interest owned/owns XXL. The same for the old Fight Klub battles that people came out and said were rigged, Interscope had a hand in. Like I said before, there is more to this than just big bad Benzino.

i dont have a link. i just randomly mentioned it in a few threads last weekend.

yea interscope been in bed with XXL since the source thing. they mightve been in bed with them even longer than that. and those fakkits still f*ckin.

i didnt know interscope had a hand in fight klub. it makes sense, cuz i always found it odd how it made it to TV. and some of those battles were bullchit. i remember they had sam scarfo beat 40 cal on some bullchit. now it makes sense, seeing that scarfo was in g-unit.

The Jay Electronica aspect is stranger to me. Why was he there? Is he a journalist? How was he there? How is he still around after that? He became known like 5 years later...His career is fishy as hell, lots of behind the scenes moves and very little music...
Exactly. Jay journey is weird as hell. Dude seems to have relationships with everyone well before he became known.

Em dropped Nail in the Coffin and it was a wrap for Benzino and Source

that wack ass diss isnt the reason for that.

this chit is was deeper than some rap disses.

Exactly what the hell happened? One minute it was a lil bumpy the next thing it was some corporate takeover ish and it had new owners. I'm still scratching my head. I remember Jay Electronica and Benzino discussing it and the way they were talking it seemed like it was some powerful conspiracy behind it or something. I just want to know what happened, how it happened and what was the reason behind it. Sort of reminded me of when Ice-T did cop killa and then you got to see these different corporations go into action and try to clean that ish up.

i think benzino brought jay elec into the game.

jay used to be down with the almighty rso.

Facto. But how did Interscope not caught up in a conflict of interest thing for the XXL thing? Never figured that out.

But what you saying is true. Been said and talked about since the early 00's just a few years after its start.

because interscope controlled most of rap media.

benzino/the source broke all of this down.

very few people wanted to listen, but EVERYBODY wanted to complain a couple years later when chit got worst after them folks peeped how nobody was paying attention.

benzino predicted all of this.

he was there from day 1

the problem was the day he got arrested in 2001...............

Ray Benzino Scott Arrested

nobody knew he co owned... it was MAJOR news when it came out... a rapper, is the owner, of the biggest hip hop magazine... whose ratings are the bible.

WELL LETS CHECK OUT WHAT HE GAVE HIMSELF...... him and his crew always had amazing reviews and scores... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

WELL LET'S CHECK OUT WHAT EVERYONE ELSE GOT..... friends and fukk buddies always got amazing reviews and scores

from there, the very next year he beefs with the biggest selling hip hop artist of all time, eminem... and at the time, the hottest rapper in 50 cent... and their multiplatinum crews.. and dre... shyt xzibit was even in it and he was large at the time.. and the machine of interscope.... and XXL... the hot new magazine with no hip hop owner

and that was history for that

There you go.

If you think that diss was wack you're on some good molly.:russ:

that chit is trash.

only white boys think its groovy.

XXL is only around because of the Freshmen of the year cover, and only hardcore hip hop fans care about that.

XXL is even more irrelevant without it.

the freshemen of the year thing always been bullchit.

mostly a bunch of weirdos with no buzz on their own block.

Did The Source have shareholders at the time? They probably saw Dave Mays and Benzino were fukking with the profits and gave them the boot. I was surprised how much influence and bias Benzino was using when they gave 50 the cover and it turned out just to be articles slandering him. Then they pushed the racist Eminem song and ran another cover with Eminem flipping off readers and had more anti-articles. 50, Em, Dre and Interscope boycotted The Source and jumped to XXL. It was ridiculous when The Source was claiming that Interscope was promoting and glorifying negativity, violence, and cultural appropriation but they had no problem promoting the same shyt and the same people (Eminem cover with the chainsaw when they were cool with him).

But XXL turned out to be just as shameless when it turned out that they lied about the order of protection saying it was all fake. Then 50 Cent/G-Unit was on the cover every other month in seemed. Hip-Hop Weekly became successful and they came out with Juicy.
