Last time I checked, that's what they were doing. Acknowledging the African roots. Something historians have only just recently started to accept after saying otherwise for a hundred years. It's not that the "Hoteps" obsessed with it. It's that alot of blacks feel like history was purposely misconstrued (and it was) and they want to set people correct.

I don't want to accuse you of anything but, you starting to sound like those "your ancestors were West Africans" type cats.

Like I said, I don't like the word "Hotep" because again, it sounds like you're ridiculing people for bringing up the blackness in Egypt.

Why not call them smart dumb or ignorant instead?

As an African, I kind of feel some type of way about that term from what and where I've heard it being used.

I don't like the term either.

You don't see white people calling whites "hotep" (or whatever the white equivalent would be). They'll call someone an idiot, a nut job or a tin foil conspiracy theorist. The word "hotep" just screams to me stop talking about pharoahs nikka, you a nikka, stay in a nikka's place.

Most African Americans don't even know that we come from West Africa. They don't teach us that in school. They just tell us we come from Africa. Most of us view the whole of Africa as the homeland of our ancestors, we think our ancestors come from all over(which some were taken from all over but that's beside the point). So when certain African Americans find out that Egypt is in Africa(ask the AVERAGE American, not just African American where Egypt is and I gurantee you they will say the middle east, I wouldn't be surprised if some said Europe). Then we automatically assume, ok these are our people. That's where a lot of this so-called "hotep" shyt come from imo.

AS an African myself (Nigerian, and West Indian) what is wrong with African Americans wanting to learn about African civilization? African history? African culture? I grew up with it in my household from art to books to dress to traditions...I like seeing it...especially amongst the younger generations cause there's more to our existence than what's here in America...and that should be embraced. SO much of our own history has been whitewashed, destroyed, glossed over, never even touched upon in major schools of thought...I don't understand why any black person would be against it.

And that blog that pic is from disgusts me.

I'd rather embrace my black brothers and sisters in America and break down these barriers that divide us. Than stay divided.
