I don't want to say it's bad. But the initial fund that you will have access to isn't to great...To make sure you're successful with the TSP you will need to move your funds around and hope that it's the right one...But the main intent is to find you a fund and just stick with it...Remember a secret that people have always told me. If the government is providing something it is going to benefit them in some type of way. It's also why they went to the new blended retirement for the military.
Honestly just invest 5-10% of your monthly income and a percentage of any bonuses you may receive into it and forget about it. I have about $18000 tied up in a G fund but had to borrow against in a few years ago.
