Can we talk about Anthony Davis for a minute?

Check the plus and minus he's actually not a difference maker in defense yet
My eye test says VERY differently

Alters more shots around the basket than anyone in the league, covers an insane amount of ground with his length/athleticism, guards the pick/roll well, great weak side defender, even disrupts passing lanes

The statistics also hint that Davis is sticking too close to his man (priorities) and isn’t providing a ton of help to his teammates. Per Seth Partnow’s work at whereoffensehappens.com where he takes a look at SportVu data, Anthony Davis holds opponents at the rim to a respectably low field goal percentage of 45.7% (rank 28 of 118). He however contests only 6.12 shots per 36 minutes (rank 101 of 118) — this is more than two shots less than the average amongst power forwards and centers. He contests just 27.4% of opponent field goal attempts within 5 feet of the rim; the average is 36.3%. In other words, Davis is great at bothering shots but he’s not bothering shots all that often.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's considered the 3rd best player in the league by season's end. There's a major drop off after Bron and KD, no reason he can't be THAT guy that's next in line.

This is about the way I feel, but I think he will be the best player in the league regardless what Lebron or KD do from here on out. IMO, in 3 to 4 years tops, he's the best player in the league.

6'10 shot blocker, nice face up game, probably the best running big man in the game. Above average mid-range shooter. Above average off the bounce for a PF, can guard all the way out to the 3 point line, rebounds bigger than his 220lb frame. He can still get better on pick and roll defense and he can get much better in the post, but I think he's better than every PF not named Blake and that could even go in his favor.

If he really commits to getting in the post and steadily picking up the lb's, he will easily be the best player in the league.

Yeah, and defensive win shares and DRtg would tell you Carlos Boozer and Mike Dunleavy were elite defenders last season :stopitslime:

Point being, stats that quantify defense can be very misleading.

I watched Ant Davis at least 10 times last year and will go by my eye test. He is a game changer on defense. I wont hear differently.

He can develop into a monster defender but he hasn't shown that yet the stats show he isn't a difference maker on defense his first two seasons

Point is he can improve and become an all around defender that's all I'm saying

He's not a good individual defender yet. Has a lot of work. Has trouble with players who can out the ball on the floor at times
Mainly because he's literally the only capable defender on his team while everyone else is a net negative.

You can't help everyone and still expect help. That's the 'issue' he has.

Yeah, I don't think that's even debatable. He had like 2 or 3 games where he flirted with a quadruple double. Back to back games with 8+ blocks, the amount of ground he covers closing out on shooters is just ridiculous.

Google boxscores and look at basketball reference for all your basketball knowledge brehs.

Carlos Boozer has more defensive win shares than Tony Allen... It's obvious who the better defender is

Blocks aren't a great indicator of individual defense. Nice gamble stat Like steals . He's needs to Improve as an pnr player as well

Think blocks automatically means great defense

There was a reason he didn't get all team defense yet

He's not there yet regardless how cool his blocks look
