Compare that one year in 2009 with all the times he came up short in the postseason...... Now compare that with other yankees (like Matsui, Jeter, Tino Martinex Paul O'Neill, Bernie Williams,) who show up every post season..... That is what I call gritty...
A Rod is a head case, He has always been one.... Cashman is probably just exasperated with the guy already. Of course the yankees are trying to get out of this contract, but I don't think throwing words at A Rod would magically disappear the contract
Cashman just lost his temper and overreacted in front of a reporter.... Some of you guys are acting like Cashman held a press conference, just to tell A Rod to shut the fuk up... He slipped up in front of one reporter who later reported it ... Ever since he apologized, he has been professional, not a negative peep about A Rod since.
Again, If George Steinbrenner was still alive, you would have heard much worse about A Rod than that...
I personally feel that the Yankees (for giving him that deal) and MLB (turning a blind eye to PEDS for years ) got what they deserve and I hope A Rod fights them till the end and wins.
His personal life has nothing to do with this, same way he didn't mention A Rod's personal life ever...

Steinbrenners are the owners . Cashman saying he didn't want players isn't professional either and he already had one too many public incidents involving a mistress .

Yea they knew he could opt out and they were prepared to move on without him in 2007.... from 2004 until 2007 excluding the first three games of the 2004 ALCS .... A Rod was abysmal in the postseason. Cashman was on record in saying on talk radio that year, the yankees were prepared to move on without A Rod (Cashman was more interested in building a world champion through pitching(Daisuke was available and Barry Zito was available)than A Rod beating the home run record) Read the Yankee Years: Joe Torre.
But the other Yankee execs especially Steinbrenner when A Rod began to crawl back when he realized no one else wanted him for that money .... saw dollar signs from the home run record and began bidding against themselves when they had all the leverage in negotiations, Torre and Cashman wanted no parts of A Rod after his performances in the post season in 2005 - 2007 and saw the opt out as a way to part ways with A Rod cause they saw him as a head case, even his teammates were calling him A- Fraud....... Cashman bit his tongue and did what he was supposed to do cause Steinbrenner was really running the show and wanted A Rod back because of the home run record.
I never said I was mad at A Rod... In his shoes..... I would have done the same thing.... I'm just letting people know that Cashman didn't start hating him out of nowhere..... it has been building up for about 10 years now......
A Rod has done things over the years as a Yankee alone, that if you were an yankee exec would leave you likeis wrong with this guy ...... If Steinbrenner was here in his full mental and physical capacity like he was in the 1970s - early 2000s, You would have heard much more venom towards A Rod than even what Cashman said recently....
I am not saying Cashman is a saint, Cashman is a guy who looks out for himself ........ always has been. He threw Joe Torre under the bus in 2007, It really wasn't Torre's fault why the team kept on cjoking in the postseason but how they assembled team, big priced free agents with no character and grit, (bypassing the formula that made the yankees a success in the late 90s (character free agents and home grown talent)), the crown jewel of this useless splurge being number 13 A Rod.
