Just because you older than someone don’t mean you an elder. I ain’t calling you my elder cause you older. It’s a lot of old bummy dudes out here. If I’m younger than you and got more going for me than you. Why should I listen to you?

I respect elders who are doing okay financially.
If you 70 years + and need to borrow money, you not an elder to me. You a failure.
My 70 year cousin is a struggling musician. Sometimes needs a place to stay.
I have no problem with it. I love him he family.
But i used to call him Uncle, He got demoted to Cousin. (he actually is my cousin but i always called cousins who were significantly older than me Aunt or Uncle out of respect.)

Yes, listen and learn from people who are where you want to be but realize a lot of these people only like to hear themselves talk and really don't want to help you get to where they are. On the flipside, there is a bum that could tell you the very thing that keeps you from ending up where he ended up, often times out of hubris.

We all got unique experiences and paths in life. Just because you're doing better than someone doesn't mean they can't put you on to something. I'll learn from anybody; young, old, rich people, bums, whores, housewives etc

Additionally, don't let the number of age cloud your own judgement about who is more the wiser between you and the person you're looking at.

So many times I repressed my wisdom and vision in regards to older homies, uncles and things of that nature because I would automatically just assume that the advice/wisdom should be flowing from them to me. But even as a young man I could see things they couldn't and it's important to know when to toss that assumption out and speak your mind. Honor the wisdom you have while being willing to receive more.
