Did you guys just skip over the fact that the games on the PS4 Pro will take advantage of the actual hardware upgrade?

Ya'll talking like 4K bluray playback is the ONLY thing that the PS4 Pro would've been able to do. It's a disappointment for some I understand, but to make it seem like the PS4Pro isn't an upgraded PS4 that plays games in much higher resolutions/framerates with graphical enhancements to boot is kind of ... strange. It's like people just literally went full Looney Tunes and ignored every other benefit and just kept harping on and on and on about a lack of 4K Blurays.

If 4K Bluray playback is so important for someone, then the XB1s is the perfect box for said person. Hell, some people probably already have 4K bluray players. I'd guess someone who's big into 4K bluray playback with a 4K TV now either owns a 4K bluray player or XB1s already.

For someone like me who rarely watches movies, I'll be blunt and say I simply don't care. :yeshrug:
Can you educate these cats on the difference between 4k up scaling on Xbox 1 set vs ps pro.

Xbots seem convinced they are the same

I don't have those issues either. I've always had every console and will continue to have every console for the foreseeable future.
Far as making a decision about console before even seeing it, you guys made your decision about the Neo the moment you heard the name.
Reality is this is larrys time to buck back. If they drop the ball on this one they deserve to go under the ground for ever, but chances are they won't since Sony didn't bring their A game with this Ps4 pro like they did with the Ps4. This stuff goes in cycles breh. But if the ps4pro works for you that's cool. The Scorpio is going to be more powerful and have a 4K player. That's a good look for them. At the end of everything, the most played games will be multiplats that look nearly identical on each platform. Console exclusives only getting bogged up on the coli where pissing matches are mandatory.
Until we see side by sides of scorpio multiplats burying ps4 games it's just an atari jaguar but I think k without a bigger leap forward xbox will be getting by on specs in the minds of nerds.

Scorpio will not be the time when xbox takes all the ps4 consumers and make them xbots.

It's actually the time they'll be buried once and for all because ps5 will probably come correct with graphics and exclusives. More then anything this is the time for Sony to establish new IPS so when ps5 drop the graphical advantage or on part experience will be overshadowed by great games. We have no reason to suspect Microsoft will take the momentum since Microsoft studios was a dud and next year most people won't be ready to change console formats.

Always remember nikka.

Next gen starts when Sony says so.

Xbox will always be a placeholder

I think you're misunderstanding what was presented.

Everything they showed will benefit games and 4K streaming. 4K Bluray playback isn't required to get the benefits of any of the improvements they talked about. Netflix 4K, Youtube 4K, other streaming apps will all support 4K playback.

The games they showed are absolutely being run with higher quality assets rendered at a higher resolution/framerate than the PS4 does. If you have a 4K TV and you buy a PS4 Pro, you get all of these enhancements. 4K Bluray player is just a lack of being able to buy a 4K bluray movie and popping it in but you can watch that movie through other avenues.

Think of it how people played Xbox 360 on 720P/1080P TVs all last gen without a bluray player. They still was about to stream HD content though.
I understand exactly what was presented.
They are marketing a console towards 4K resolutions, and they didn't include a 4K bluray player.

You need to invest in a 4K television in order to take full advantage of this new system, but didn't think to include a 4K player, it's fukking rediculous and the only reason I see them doing this is so you can buy a Sony brand 4K player standalone for another 400$

damn near everyone I kno has a 1080p tv. It's almost mandatory to enjoy the X1 & PS4
And this is a console marketed towards people with or looking into getting a 4K television.

Why would those people not care about 4K picture?

Seems like they marketed it towards gamers.

With PlayStation 4 Pro our goal is to deliver innovation in the form of cutting-edge visuals and graphics while in the midst of the PS4’s lifecycle. PS4 Pro, which launches November 10, 2016, for a suggested retail price of $399.99 USD ($499.99 CAD), enhances PS4 games by supporting the latest in imaging technology through 4K resolution and High Dynamic Range (HDR), as well as smoother frame rates. Games that already look extraordinary on PS4 will look richer and more detailed, thanks to the more powerful GPU and faster CPU at the heart of PS4 Pro.

With more pixels, 4K’s higher resolution delivers graphics that are sharper and have greater detail than ever imagined. HDR enables visuals to look much closer to the way your eyes see the real world.

Some developers are updating previously launched PS4 games to add PS4 Pro support, while other developers are building PS4 Pro support into upcoming releases. At launch, you’ll be able to download patches for games – such as Uncharted 4 – which are enhanced when playing on the new console. Future releases that will have PS4 Pro enhancements built-in include Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Mass Effect: Andromeda and Days Gone.

However, even if you own an HDTV that does not support either 4K or HDR, PS4 Pro still provides a number of benefits. All games will run in 1080p resolution, and some will even run in a higher or more stable framerate. If you’re a gamer that wants to be at the forefront of innovation, PS4 Pro is for you.

We also know a lot of our fans watch movies, TV shows, and videos on their PS4, so we’re working with our partners who offer best-in-class streaming services to build new apps for PS4 Pro. Netflix will launch a new app at the launch of PS4 Pro that supports 4K. YouTube is also developing a new 4K-compatible app for PS4 Pro.
Seems like the main goal was for gamers. Pretty much every thing on stage was a game.

I think the price is $399 because of the upgraded hardware. The Bluray drive player would've added more to the cost(not just $15 though).

For the XB1s, the hardware is exactly the same as the original Xbox 1 give or take a tiny cpu boost which provides negligible improvements to games sometimes(Source DF face offs)but the bluray drive was added because it was marketed I guess for movies and 4K bluray playback. I think Sony dropped the ball with the SLIM PS4. THAT should've at least had a bluray 4K player but then people would still go "wtf why the more expensive PS4 don't have 4k Bluray."

4K is not mutually exclusive with 4K Bluray playback, though I can see a small group of people being thrown off by the lack of 4k bluray support and I get it. I personally feel like there's a very small vocal minority that cares about 4K bluray and would've been buying a gaming console for that. I'd wager by next year and such, even cheaper 4K bluray players will be out. I don't think movie buffs/hardcore gamers overlap much but that's just me :manny:

I feel like on paper it seems like a big deal but I'm just gonna get anecdotal and say that most people will be streaming their movies on this.

Breh.

:snoop:

That link touts 4K as the main selling point, to get the full experience you need a 4K television.

Your really in here acting like someone that invested money on a 4K TV, would not be interested in a 4K bluray player.

It just depends on the person but MS was smart putting one in the S.

I'm confused at your wording here..

If someone has a 4K TV and they get a PS4 Pro, they will get the full experience.

You don't need a 4K BLURAY player to reap the benefits of everything posted in that article which pertains to gaming. If I buy a 4K TV tomorrow and then cop a PS4 Pro, when I pop in UC4, there will be a patch that will then be able to render the game at higher resolutions that will look amazing on a 4K display because now everything is being rendered with higher quality assets and detail, something that can't be done via simple upscaling.

Even if I DON'T have a 4K TV, devs can make multiple modes that benefit regular HD users e.g. Rise of the Tomb raider will have 3 modes at launch:

~4K/30fps
1080P/60fps
1080P/30fps with graphics maxed out.

I'm only saying people who bought a 4K TV already who's serious about 4K bluray, most likely already own either an XB1s, a 4K Bluray player or just uses their existing console to stream stuff in 4K.

You're making it sound like because the PS4 Pro doesn't support 4K Bluray discs, that nothing else will work. That's incorrect.

This conversation shows me that Sony needs to clarify some more because right now this thing isn't quite clear to everyone. Some people hear this and think, if they don't have a 4K TV, then they can't get any benefits for anything and even if they do, they still won't get any benefits which is incorrect.
