Say I want to be the person that makes character designs, and design the cities and cars n shyt in a game. What degree would i need the most for that?

Thats the artist/animators. But like somebody said before, for the games industry what you really need is a portfolio. Alot of people break into the Game field by working on Mods or open source games.Very few colleges offer "Game Programming" courses etc.etc Look up speechs given by "John Carmack".

Even within Game Programming, you have the roles seperated( game play programmer, engine programmer etc.etc). Also from what I hear, prepare to work alot of 10+ hr days...:to: and if you dont like Math/Physics dont even waste your time. lol

Had a dude that left my project that used double/triple nested hashmaps for the simplest shyt that could have been solved with an extremely simple class. I'd :rudy: and keep it moving if it worked, but it doesn't. I know that I'm gonna have to go and fix all that shyt.

Dap and rep on site. this post right here helped me solve something i was stuck with for a few days because people thought it was a hot idea to store multiple responses using pipes to separate the responses.

Doing firmware programming at my job, spending most of my time on the coli eating snacks.. 401k stacking taking company paid 'vacations'... :jawalrus:

I work in research and development btw. I do shyt 99% of everyone else can't do then go back to chilling

:myman: get what people think is a week's worth of work, get it done in 90 minutes and play jrpgs on vita all day for the rest of the week...

OP programming is all about what you know and how you sell your knowledge. the catch, with programming, is that it has to be something you actually like doing...otherwise it will be hell. the degree is irrelevant to a true geek shop

i love programming...id say its a passion

actually assembly aint bad.....I actually liked it in college...try looking at some of the javascript we have:...now this will make your eyes bleed

(function () {function u(a, b) {
var c;
a || (a = {});
for (c in b) a[c] = b[c];
return a
}function la() {
for (var a = 0, b = arguments, c = b.length, d = {}; a < c; a++) d[b[a++]] = b[a];
return d
}function w(a, b) {
return parseInt(a, b || 10)
}function ra(a) {
return typeof a === "string"
}function aa(a) {
return typeof a === "object"
}function Ja(a) {
return Object.prototype.toString.call(a) === "[object Array]"

a.splice(c, 1);
break
}
}function s(a) {

else if (s(b) && aa(b)) for (d in b) a.setAttribute(d, b[d]);
return e
}function na(a) {
return Ja(a) ? a : [a]

var a = arguments,

b && u(a, b);
e && F(a, {
padding: 0,

c && F(a, c);

you wrote this? your style is cluttered as fukk breh

Wow. Non-descriptive variables.I hate working with programmers who do that.:sadcam:

No, im starting college next month. By the time my 2 years is up at the CC i'll be 19 with an associates in Computer science thats the PLAN.

I want to know if i can do anything with it.
If you're going to stop at an Associates, get a certification or several certifications instead. Less money and more opportunities as far as jobs go.

I'm assuming at least two years. It's a 30 credit program and some of the classes have other classes as prerequisites. And with the workload in the classes, I doubt I'd be able to handle a full-time class schedule while working anyway (I already tried that last fall and failed miserably :snoop:)

In the mean time, hopefully I can land some internships to gain some experience outside the classroom.

Though I wonder if it'd be possible to land a decent permanent job somewhere while working towards the master's?

You can find a job like that but most of them require your Master's to be in related to your current field. I need to go back before my job changes their mind :laugh:

You don't need computer science. You need a fine arts degree (or raw talent), but if you want to do 3D modeling, you need to learn the software and make things to show employers.

hmm wish u wud just tell me ur salary :/
Just go on dice.com and look up jobs titled software developer, java developer, software engineer, or whatever else. They'll list ballpark figures sometimes. It depends on experience too. Same position could pay $40,000 or $70,000 a year. It depends on location too. Same position in San Francisco or NYC is going to pay thousands more than one in a small or medium-sized city due to cost of lving.
Some are contract jobs so you may see listings that are paying $30 to 60 an hour, depending on experience and education. But, they are short-term (sometimes they can be extended or you can go from contract to permanent) and there are no benefits and taxes are not taken out. You need to either pay estimated state and federal tax throughout the year or save it up and pay it all with your tax return, which will be in the thousands. And, you'll also want to buy your own medical and dental insurance which will be in the hundreds per month. It would be stupid not to.

Is software engineering of software development just as good as CS.(career wise)

In the computer programming world, either you're an engineer or computer science. That is, either you know a little programming and lots of hardware (circuit design etc) or lots or programming little hardware. Companies don't really care about degree titles that's all university politics.

I'm a computer engineer with some software development experience, maybe in a year or two I'm hoping to be good enough to design PCBs and what not, fully integrated circuits think making motherboards and shyt.

I like this shyt a lot, really wanna become a better programmer but in due time, tryna make my own android apps that's where the easy money at

Software engineering and software development are pretty much the same. They are just labels/titles.
One of my job titles was "computer scientist". But, I did the same thing as a computer programmer, a software developer, and a software engineer.

Computer engineer and electrical engineer, they are different in both education and job duties. The difference is that an electrican engineer or computer engineer graduate can go into software development, but it's doesn't work vice versa.
