Is this gonna be another thread full of people who haven’t gone to a party in a decade telling us which smash hits didn’t move the needle and shouldn’t be mentioned.

Nearly every song posted so far looks good to me. The songs people played when they first got laid, got their first car, moved into their college dorm, had their first breakup etc are the songs that last for decades. And they tend to be big radio records. In every decade.

Bingo! Its amazing how tracks you hated in real time back then actually became the soundtrack due to the exposure effect that links them to the emotions and memories.

Pop music is an interesting phenomenon as it recycles a handful of topics for each generation because some things will never change but there is also more to this so lets keep going and see what people pick.

A Mississippi Cotton Field
last TEN years? It's tricky, cause we consume everything differently.

Take something like Kendrick's "alright" or "Be humble".

EVERYBODY remembers Alright being praised and used like it was a new negro spiritual. EVERYBODY remembers Be Humble being played at Starbucks with 48 year old white baristas chanting it.

But those moments "came and went".

I made a post ages ago about how we were in what I called a "Oroborous Loop" where "timeless" was becoming shorter and shorter because we were being taught to consume more in less time.

It's HARD to measure "timeless" when you got artists dropping every 1-3 months.

3 hard to place on a worldwide scale. Bad Bunny? The Weeknd? Dua Lipa?

I don't listen to much pop music, but I appreciate it when its done well like the last Taylor album. Its so easy to only check for the type of shyt you like these days. I'll say -

Future - Mask Off

Olivia Rodrigo - Drivers License

SZA - Good Days

Or almost any 3 Drake songs.
