If that's the case than because one of them or both is/are insecure and or stuck in social conventions and traditional gender roles. A wife that couldn't deal with me earning less than her most likely wouldn't be loyal when I fall on hard times and need her the most, that's an automatic

That could be true.
Personally if I ever get married I don't plan on getting divorced so it's about finding the most likely to last long term combination of qualities. Maybe my thinking is wrong but stats are stats.
