Canada would have been in the Olympics if they had beaten Venezuela in 2015 FIBA Americas. Team had Wiggins, Olynyk, Stauskas, Joseph, Bennett, Powell and Nicholson. Clearly the most talented team in the tournament. Venezuela didn't even have Vasquez.

Why the hell would you put a recruiter in charge of the national team?

This loss is all on Coach Cal. He didn't have this team prepared to play. Who cares if they didn't have their best guys? Canada didn't either. The #1 player in Canada, Oshae Brissett, stayed in Syracuse instead of playing. Cal has to wear this loss like a scarlet letter. The first loss for USA Basketball in international competition since 2011. This should be a wake up call for USAB. You need good coaching. When Canada Hockey loses to USA Hockey in any level especially the Juniors, it shakes the table and creates national discussion.

Calipari's lack of in-game adjustments and offensive sets failed the US. The lack of shot blockers and ability to effectively switch on defense killed the US, because in Calipari system that's the backbone of his elite defensive teams on the college level.

Honestly, he's a glorified AAU coach/recruiter - who basically has a system with basic sets that barely even uses ball screens or rudimentary PnR principles.
