Internet forums in 2000 were a microcosm and not at all reflective or representative of “everyone”.

@surf summed it up perfectly and his experience matched my own. The anonymity of Internet forums provides an outlet for certain people to focus on whether and to what extent pretty much any and everything is “gay”. Whereas in real life, in real time, you would have got clowned for saying, “I think that line sounds gay. Do you think it’s gay?”
