i remember when the Source Mic ratings came out for Canibus (back when Source mag ratings held mad weight) and somebody called me with the bad news telling me he only got 2 mics

I feel you, son. I think the problem with Canibus, was that he never learned how to adapt his just potent and raw ability into song making. As much as I love battling and the type of rhymes he would kick, as an artist you have to get to the point where you can have an audience connect with you for more than what he was doing there, and I'm not even talking about crossover records, but an entire album full of those type of raps, which is what his first album was more or less, combined with the lackluster beats just makes for a bad listen.
Artist need producers to develop them some time, look why Dre did with Snoop, he thought them how to use his voice, and how to make songs
The same with Eminem, he polished up his raw ability, and now even Kendrick his album was way more polished than his previous works
Canibus worked with wyclef and that was it
i forgot about wyclef dude did fukk up bis's career.. even mr cheeks when he was fukking with lost boyz.. he should of fukked with the WU..And Wyclef isn't that guy. No diss to Wyclef at all but he's just not that guy. The crazy thing about it though, is he was connected with Lost Boyz and Def Squad..he could've hooked up with Eric Sermon or Mr. Cheeks. I don't know how most feel about Cheeks, but he knew how to make songs and make an impact and Sermon clearly knows how to mold and help artist
