I wanna hear some stories about positive and negative experinceswith car buying and what to look out for. I always forget these dealers are wolves. Thank God i have good credit :blessed:

I cant understand how some people finance cars and never pay them off. Like the whole concept of always having a car payment is weird to me.

I'm in the process of shopping for another car (time to retire the VW  ) and been looking at cars. My boy and I are both shopping and he was like:
  • Him - how much do ou owe on it?
  • Me - What?
  • Him - You're gonna trade in the VW, right? How much do you owe on it?
  • Me - Nah, I paid it off at least 3 ..almost 4 years ago. You really think i'd be making payments on a 9 y/o car?
  • Him - wow. You know what.. Ive never paid a car off in my life. Ever. I always trade it in and get a newer one. Under water or not.
Mind you tis cat has had cars repoed so its not like he's balling.
I've had 6 cars. 1st car was a gift. 2nd car was a gift. 3rd car paid for cash. 4th car was first brand new car and paid it off in less than 4 years. 5th car got totalled and i paid it off. Current car been paid off for years now. I know this dude who is a finance manager for a dealership and he tells me a lot if not most people that finance cars rarely actually pay off a car.

That concept of always owing kinda bothers me.

I lease so I in your sense never pay my car off fully. Every 3 years I get a new one. Past two times I've leased when turning it in I actually also had equity to boot.

Lowers my payments on the next one or I can just pocket the cash.

I like new cars...I like new technology in them and the new car smell. Leasing works well for me.

I drive too much for leases. I'd go way over the allowed 3 year mileage by the 1st year

Try to pay for that muthafukka in cash.....If not.......

Use a local credit union instead of financing through the dealership.

Don't fukk with a Dodge anything. Heard nothing but horror stories about chargers and trucks with and without the Hemi.

^^^you custoMize your terms breh. I average 17k a year so I just ask for a 20k allowence and they price it into your payments
U can buy miles up front too. They usually give em to u for a discount when u do that vs as a penalty after the fact. And I think they even buy them back at the end if u dont use them.

Im the same as Op, prefer to pay off as quick as possible cause I hate debt.

Just bought an $21k car in February, only $13k left now after a few months of paying...should be paid off by end of the year. Last car, bought cash. Very first car was a gift.

But.....credit is cheap right now (some places 0% for a good chunk of time). With good credit u can get near 1% apr and make minimum payments. This frees up ur money for other uses. I wouldnt blame anyone that went that route. It doesnt always have to be pay off quick.

I just like having little debt hanging around, especially since Im gonna be swimming in student loans soon :(

I bought my first car back in February for a little over 13k. I put 3500 down and pay 167 a month. I still have about 6 years until I reach 100k miles(it's a 2013) and by then, I'll probably be finished paying it off. And since it's a Toyota, maintenance ain't too much stress. My dad's Toyota has over 200k miles and it's still doing fine. The only thing it needs is a good paint job.

Are you the type of person who gets a new care every few years no matter what? If so then lease you are going to save yourself money in the long run

Are you the type of person who runs a car into the ground until it won't even start...then buy you will save yourself money in the long run...

The only real rule of car buying is going in with a max price you will spend and a list of all the amenities a car must have for you to spend it...

When people don't do this and just go look to "buy a car" the car dealer can start showing you any car for any price and convince you that you should buy it...

You set that max and list of things you have to have and stick to it then he will only show you cars in that range, you won't even be tempted to buy something else...

I damn near had the people at the dealership where I bought my car wanting to fight me I was such an a$$hole...
