i don't think you need "haters" per say. what you need is resistance or motivation. that can come in any shape or form. a hater, to me at least, is someone who realizes what you're doing and realizes you have a point but doesn't care and will shyt on whatever you're trying to do because they don't like you personally. i'm sure those people that told him it wouldn't work didn't know him personally. if anything, they were shortsighted. but i agree with you in a sense. i've been realizing that more and more in my daily life; the need for motivation and push from myself and from others. anything that causes me to reengaging what i love to do and what causes me to work harder...
Folks do hate without knowing you personally. If you fly, you have encountered default hate from folks you've never met before. They were hating on his idea because I'm sure he gave more detailed reasoning than just, "hey, what you think about a bicycle made outtah cardboard?"
But you're right, that motivational doubt by others does wonders for your focus and provides an opportunity to improve your confidence. It supports what Hov said, "Focus on the process, not the result"
That's part of the process, overcoming haters and self-doubt
