the certification is fraudulent. I remember French Montana did this with his Montana album (the album did 6K first week, was on the chart for 1 week and went GOLD) The fact that the reports were "this album already sold 1.5 mil technically" is wild fugazi. Her doing 200K first week is not and the reason why I say it ain't is because Cardi's rollout/promo has definitely reminded people that she's dropping in the same way that J. Cole was supposed to do 180K off Might Delete Later but word of mouth caused fans to not care by the time it dropped.


Up and WAP on this confirmed what we already knew: that after all these start-stops with Cardi, Atlantic was scared she'd fail so they ensured that at least the numbers would look pretty. Her getting pregnant AGAIN around album time, you already know the label heads were like "we let the last 2 kids slide. No more. You're touring even if the baby gotta be born in Fargo."

i don't see how the weird certification trick is beneficial to the label. especially considering the big 3 labels all have ownership in each of the streaming services.

It's a good PR look/helps with perception.
1. W/e the album wouldve normally done, no matter what it's plat now.
2. PR of it being plat already may get a few more eyes on it, various blogs/social media posts
3. Certification is not real sales stat, so that dont lose money on it.
4. Like you said, stops artist from complaining and they can brag about having a plat album.

But this new one looked into things and was like "nah bytch u wildin we been putting mad bread into u and u haven't dropped shyt in 6-7 years it's time to work.." so they been putting mad pressure on her. Then her dumb ass turns around and gets pregnant again right around album release time. They got her doing the most right now definitely. Shorty is a spoiled brat and u can tell from the leaked messages she had with Offset back in the day. She had that nikka fighting with Migos when she couldn't get what she wanted. Motorsport was a Quavo song. Not a Migos song. SHE forced her way on the song and made them turn it into a Migos song.

It was certified that. Wayno is mixing up terms. Your certifications are based on what all songs on your album sold. Btw Drake out hot line bling on an album a year after it dropped. It’s kinda hard to put older singles in his album since he drops so frequently. Also I don’t know if he has singles that went diamond that are not on albums.

People been putting singles on their pushed back albums since forever. Obviously before, individual song sales didn’t count towards album certifications. So that’s the only difference.

As for the certification it should really state that the album was released when the first song was released cause that’s when they start counting the sales towards the certification. Or RIAA should change so that it only counts from when the album is released. In any event it’s just a morale boost for some artists, who cares

Jay Electronica puts songs from 12 years ago on new albums.
