A lot of R & B stars get whole completed songs handed to them by producer and writing teams. If they like the song presented to them all they do is go into the studio and sing right on top of the ghost singer's vocals and then the studio engineer erases the ghost singer and the track becomes the stars record. Jill Scott was doing a lot of ghost singing before she got her shot. Remember the two versions of The Roots "You Got Me", the original with Jill and the label backed do over with Erykah Badu
So do rappers

I thought it was always said Lauryn had writers/help? Or am I tripping. I could have sworn they mentioned Wyclef writing
I won’t say people are lying about Lauryn getting writing help but I damn sure will not believe that Wyclef wrote any rhymes for her :mjlol: same man that never wrote heat for himself? Nope.

has there been a Female MC that actually did everything herself? I'm sure there are (I'd assume Maybe Queen Lahtifa, Remi Ma, and MC Lyte?) im more so saying that the ratio is crazy how uncreative women are

Latifah and Mc Lyte have had had writers, Rah Digga, Remy and Nicki are probably it.
The only things Lyte didn't write:
1. Self Destruction verse - Russell wouldn't let LL on there so this was their way of letting him contribute.
2. Cha Cha Cha - She didn't like the track. Her producer and crew twisted her arm to do it since they knew it would be a big song. She couldn't get with it, so they wrote the verses. She holds that she wrote every other bar she ever spit.

Like someone said about Lauryn/Clef, I don't see Milk writing for Lyte, she was more complex than he is.

Apache and Treach wrote for Latifah

Smoothe Da Hustler was the real pen behind Foxy. He wrote Ain't No nikka.

What's the reasoning behind this? Too political for his biggest star?

yeah, majority of pop and pop/rap/R&B have writing rooms and use reference tracks

they all do this

Weeknd does a lot of his own, but his biggest hits, were all Max Martin helmed and label gifted. Can't Feel My Face, and In The Night

it's like a writers room on TV shows or movies, they crowd test material, that's why pop songs are so adept at tapping into the social discourse or moment, whether references to very current slang or emoji's, or whatever, because they workshop this stuff, so it fits a universal demographic, but somehow feels
organic.

Want to say that Latto song the new one, has a few bars in there like that.

....and you actin like Nicki is Kool G Rap. :russ:

bytch is basic at rhyming. She just happens to be more popular and marketable than other female rappers who are more skilled than her, but not known.
I mean Nicki ain't basic now. I wouldn't call her Lupe or some shyt but she not Soulja boy either.

Snoop has been open about using writers in his later career. He freestyled stuff for the chronic and doggystyle though. Problem wrote for him

Yea im not denying that

Im just saying that verse in particular doesn't sound like Curren$y. But apparently it was a different song, so its whatever.
