So I just got a job in the accounting / finance field working for a smaller contractor. Long story short, this industry needs a lot of different types of calculations i.e estimates, actuals, labor calculations, price lists from vendors, commissions, finance fees, margin variance etc.

These nikkas are using old ass systems which are costing them time & money. + the CRM that theyre moving too aint that good either (for the industry) and their customer service is trash. Especially for what I do, a 1 minute calculation takes 5 fukkin minutes cause of being bogged down by 5x the data entry and having to put something in like five different places.

I have a decent relationship with my boss so I was thinking about telling him that if I use a different software for the financials then the company would be in much better hands and could plan better. What do you guys think? Its a smaller company so bouncing ideas off of the company heads is both okay and encouraged.

Do you think you could make something better?

Theres already an accounting software that exists that i feel is much much better for the industry and theres an online web version so we dont need to have some massive IT overhaul

Let me lay it down like this

i contract you for a 7k home improvement project cause you want to replace your windows.
Off the rip thats a selling price for the windows + installation for every window, the estimate for the material cost, an estimate for the labor costs, the actuals for the labor costs once the contract is reviewed, finance fee calculation, commission calculation at both the beginning of the installation and at the end

The software we're moving to can't handle this stuff in the precise way that it needs to be handled. It's hella frustrating because the job itself is interesting to me and I enjoy the work and my coworkers, but a lot of my day is spent in paranoia wondering if I missed a number somewhere

you're NOT "n!ggas"

If it's as simple as suggesting a different software then idk why you wouldn't make the suggestion. What are your concerns?

You could use the software yourself without anyone knowing and save yourself the headache, it's not like the results of the calculations live in a file with a proprietary format. Export that shyt as a csv and move on with your life.

you’re assuming the software is free. I didn’t see him mention anywhere that it was and it would be dumb for him to invest his own money when ultimately it isn’t going to increase his pay.

It's gonna increase his personal productivity, he'll be able to out perform his coworkers doing the same work which gives him a huge edge and can result in promotions or bonuses.
