I like GK food, but I assumed that it was slightly Americanized version of JA food, for customers living in America. Jamericans, other island diasporas, AAs, and non-Blacks.

Same way that Chinese restaurants adjust their menus here

For me, the problem is the rice and peas.

Not everyone has access to pimento wood, so the sauce is fine for adaptation.

But making proper rice and peas is not rocket science, especially when make it in massive batches like you would at business.

Lotta these things
  • Cocoa from West Africa
  • Vanilla from Madagascar
Keep being bought at commodity prices, to be vital ingredients for much much higher priced finished goods.

Michael Lee Chin (Black Jamaican Chinese dude in Canada) bought up all of the famous Blue Mountain Coffee.

He's probably selling the beans, but there couldn't be a Jamaican Starbucks in T.Dot, London, NYC, Miami and possibly other places?

The National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia (FNC) owns and operates retail stores through its brand, Juan Valdez Café. Established to add value for over 540,000 coffee-growing families, Procafecol (the FNC's holding company) manages over 600 locations worldwide, selling premium coffee, beverages, and merchandise.

The poverty of vision.....

Interesting.
Didnt know that Chin was in that industry at all.
Agree with your overall point. I think Colombian govt. was smart to capitalize on such a recognized pitchman character to launch those coffee houses.
Juan Valdez commercials were airing when I was a kid, and didnt even know where Colombia was on a map.
Im not sure that coffee house culture is as strong in JA & diaspora society and culture as it is in Latin America or specifically among Colombians.

The JA diaspora spans the globe, and I think your restaurants serve some of the functions that the dedicated coffee houses do. And your cuisine is well known and attracts people from different segments of society, JA and non-JA alike.
Those eateries would be perfect distribution for Chin's branded drinks, rather than stand alone coffee spots.

It doesn't need to be all Black, Gold and Green, lol.

Ethiopia is in the same boat in terms of having coffee (the originators of it actually) and not being able to be as big as Colombian coffee or Vietnamese Coffee.

But someone like MLC is heavy in the business game, and could find someone to run develop something.

So much Caribbean, African, and Black American culture gets exploited by everyone else....

I think much bigger.

This is a Japanese company that has canned Blue Mountain Coffee (it's a blend)

Rohan Marley has a coffee line, distributed at a South Florida Golden Krust location

This is along the lines of Colombia using an international icon to brand their coffee spots. His last name is the one most people know and associate with JA. Also along the lines of using a natural distribution point.

Again, I fully agree with your point about others exploiting the resources and toil of Black people. It has to change.
Capturing more value from the product can be done in a number of ways.
