Actually, they do. That's part of the reason why the player's union cracked during the 99 lockout. Players were used to getting paid on 1st and 15th, which lead to plenty of :lupe:all around when those checks weren't coming in.

Wasn't it like 16 million?
I found an article that mentions the before tax payment
(CBS) How much was your most-recent paycheck?

If it wasn’t approaching $25 million, then you’ve got nothing on Kobe Bryant.

As part of his contract agreement, Bryant will receive a balloon payment of $24,363,044 today from the Lakers, which is 80% of his salary this season. He’ll make a total of $30,453,805 in 2013-14.

The 35-year-old shooting guard will receive the remaining $6.1 million throughout the rest of the season.

To date, Bryant has made $249,284,257 in his NBA career.

Didn't that happen last year too? I remember hearing about players taking out short term loans with like 20% interest cuz they had no money.

IF tax rates remain the same (they won't) its the same now or later because he's in the highest bracket regardless. It likely has to do more with the ability to invest or spend the funds today.

I just hope he doesnt put it on on red in atlantic city :why:

Well $60M today is worth more than it will be in a couple years. That's just a sound fiscal decision. It's all about the time value of money. :salute:
