He demanded a trade, forced his way to NY and never cared about the assets the Knicks needed to surrender to acquire him and now he complains about the team's standing pat ! The team has little flexibility so he better get used with what he has. He made his bed when he forced a trade to NY so he's going to have to lie in it. The Nets weren't a factor first and he found out the Nuggets were playing hard ball, he suddenly was willing to be traded to the Nets and has let a bidding war happen between Nets and Knicks. When he was traded to NY, he even admitted he thought he was going to be traded to the Nets (because Knicks didn't want to surrender all the assets and cap space Denver was looking for).

He tremendously helped the Nuggets during the negotiations so I don't want to hear him complaining and act like the Knicks lost to Indiana because he didn't have enough help. He should have thought about that in 2011 before he demanded a trade. Now he has just put himself in a similar situation and turned the team into the Denver Knicks (capped out, no flexibility, barely passed one round during his tenure with the team, no control on future draft picks, very few young players with potential). Basically, except the fact he's now living in NY, demanding a trade to NY did nothing for him, his team still fails to go deep in the playoffs...It's about time he learns his lesson...

He can opt out after next year and that could be a strong possibility if shyt doesn't get better. :manny:

Should have signed with the Knicks at the end of the 2010-2011 season there Melo, Gallinari & Chandler would have been able to help with the scoring.

and even if they didn't want Gallo/Wil, they still have value and could've been flipped (along with the picks they owe the Nuggets) for different pieces.

ah well. #getmoney :salute:

Carmelo Anthony doesn’t care about the math — if he did, he’d know it’s going to be very difficult for the Knicks to change the roster much this summer.

No, Carmelo Anthony just wants to win a title and he understands the Knicks roster as it stands is maybe fourth best in the East next season (when the Bulls get Derrick Rose back and the Pacers get Danny Granger back… and they couldn’t beat the Pacers now).

He wants changes; he wants help scoring, reports the New York Post.

According to a source, Anthony has told a confidant he is concerned management will stand pat this offseason and said he believes the team needs to add a bona fide secondary scorer for the Knicks to take the next step and win a championship.

The source said Anthony loves combo guard Iman Shumpert, 22, and projects him as a superstar, but not for two seasons. The source also said Anthony privately wishes the club will add a significant piece to the roster and not be status quo.

For fun, let’s ignore the game of telephone going on here (a source that talked to a confidant that talked to Carmelo) and say this is true — Anthony is right. We saw in the playoffs that once Anthony and the first option out of Knicks sets were taken away, the Knicks were at a loss about how to deal with it. J.R. Smith is nice, but he is not a consistent second scoring option.

Doesn’t mean it’s going to happen. It’s the math thing.

The Knicks have nearly $75 million in committed payroll next season with just eight players on the roster. You can up that total when they re-sign J.R. Smith (likely for a little more than $5 million a year). That puts them over the tax line and over the apron, so they are very limited in what they can do (they can’t do a sign-and-trade that brings in more salary, for example).

The kind of secondary scorer Anthony wants doesn’t come cheaply and there is just no way the Knicks find that guy for the roughly $3 million tax-payer mid-level contract they can offer (after that it’s just veteran minimum deals). The Knicks are free to try and trade for this kind of scorer, but what player on this roster that the Knicks would give up do other teams want?

The Knicks are likely to make small roster moves this summer, not big ones. Sorry ‘Melo.

The real key to their season next year may be how Anthony’s shoulder heals.

(By the way, the Knicks can’t free up cap space by amnestying Amar’e Stoudemire because they already used their amnesty on Chauncey Billups.)

Can they find a scorer through the draft possibly? They should let Jr walk and use the money on more reliable teammate.

Bruh... that was 3 years ago. That's not even why they are in the position they are in right now, anymore. Even if they kept those other players, they're all role players and not legit second scoring options like he's asking for. The closest thing is probably Gallo (Even though I personally think he would be great for this team as it is).

The reason they are in this position is Camby and Kidd being signed to these long-term contracts when they are half-way out the door, skill-wise, overpaying Novak, and Amare being Mr. Glass. And making stupid decisions like Amnestying Billups instead of Amare. But, if Amare could stay even close to healthy, this isn't even really an issue.

I don't even think the Knicks need a star second option like the article is implying. I just think they need another reliable scorer. Someone that's good for 10-12 ppg. A Belinelli type player. Someone who can create their own shot and has the ability to get really hot. But if they don't get hot, they're usually good for about 10. If they can get that kind of player for that 3 mil, they would be okay.

If they can get some scoring by committee from Felton, JR, Shump, Cope, Amare, and the other consistent scorer. They will be straight. The problem this year was Amare was hurt, Felton wasn't agressive enough, and coach didn't trust Cope until it was too late. Add that to Melo being hurt and JR having fluid in his knee :jawalrus:... I think it's just a matter of the team they have playing more and learning to play better together.

Finally, ya'll are believing that Melo said this when this came from a reporter who got this from an unnamed "confidant" who was told the by Melo... supposedly. Any chance to bash Melo I guess

:dahell: We need more then that bruh
we need a big man who can post up and score consistently
someone like amare...:ohhh:

and a center who can score a basket or two in da playoffs wouldn't hurt either

i still think da knicks win the pacers series if they were more focused and woodson didn't get out-coached so badly:manny:
he waited until we were down 3-1 to do anything and kept playing da wrong players
no way pacers were winning a game 7 in da garden

At the top.
Between their 'big 3' contracts there's no way they can add a significant piece. Amare's albatross contract has them doomed. Besides, I dont know how he would co-exist with another bigtime scorer ..

I hope for the best :manny:

I actually don't think they NEED more than that if Amare could play for 2/3 of the season and be healthy for the playoffs (Assuming we can retain K-Mart). What we need is Chandler not to be a chump in the paint when that's essentially his only responsibility. If we can't score like we want to, We should at least be able to able to play defense. And if everybody isn't playing defense, we should at least get our "best defensive player" to be a force.

Scorers weren't scoring, and the only defenders that did anything were Shump and K-Mart (in spurts). Chandler was non-existent.

If the Knicks can have Chandler, K-Mart and Amare in the paint. And try to develop a young big like Jerome Jordan or Earl Barron, I think we'll be solid enough. Personally, I would try to use that 3 mil on a player like DaJaun Blair as that consistent scorer. Plus he can play in the post. Kill two birds with one stone.

My ideal Offseason (if we made minimal changes) would include:

-Retain K-Mart, Prigs, and Cope
-Sign DaJaun Blair
-Re-sign JR to a 3 year deal, or 4 year deal with a team option (if he only accepts 4 years)
-Draft Shane Larkin (he's projected to go a couple picks early though)
-Kidd and/or Camby Retire
-Amare gets a skeleton transplant.

what they need is for the owner to get his head out of his ass and bring in people that enforce accountability....and not accepting hero iso ball as a legit offense.

There are pieces on the Knicks. They were just flatly outcoached during the Pacer series....and that's not all Woodson's fault, its the culture created above him.

jmo....Knicks do have pieces...the ball just needs to be in other guys hands in stead of Melo and JR taking low percentage shots.
