Cassidy was never that nice, :ld:.

"seein me without the grams on the grind /
is like seein Wesley Snipes in a tannin salon"

:camby:, i liked a few of his songs only because i thought a few were good songs, it wasn't for the bars at all, lol. dizaster is gonna cook this nikka but i do think cassidy will do better than joe buddens did

Even in this era, Fab was before. Fabolous was freestyling with Noreaga on Hot 1998, that's back when Cassidy was rapping about black revolution and spaceships and shyt
Back when he was rappin about the astronomical, the diabolical, the hypnopotical and all that..then Major Figgas came around and his dog house had a dog house

The battle was like '01. He was signed like 3years before that and already spitting that heavy punchline rap. Like I said, late 90's he was like a combo of Canibus and Big L. If anything, he was watered down with RR, with that doghouse backyard stuff.

And dudes mentioning Fab, not remembering that Fab was a mini-Mase.

But he was a nerd that rapped LOL
Yeah the battle was in 01 but nobody saw that shyt till 04/05. Stop it

I saw it before '04/'05. Y'all are just young and get everything late. I saw it when I was still at school, and I left in '02. By summer of '02 it was well known and seen...at least by Philly n!ggas. Cassidy already had a little buzz though, the Bul B was tri-state known by winter '97/spring '98, and a mini buzz in NY by the summer '98. With his Canibus-esque bars...there's footage. This is around the same time as Fab debuting, but Fab wasn't influenced by Canibus, he was influenced by Mase. He wasn't even punchline heavy until the '00s

It's well known Cassidy always dumbed down his bars for his official songs and releases...nikka was COMPLETELY watered down for his first album..he spit bars on his freestyles...

Everyone knows Fab was heavily Mase influenced in the 90s...like I said before...Jada wasn't the first punchline rapper but he was def the one who influenced ALL them nikkas early 00s...

I might have my time frame off but did Juelz get his style from Cassidy?Always felt his style was a little bit Philly influenced?Id still have to say Juelz influenced more nikkas in the rap game than Cassidy outside of the battle scene.

cassidy is corny, nikka got one battle on video and think everybody looks up to him.

dizaster is terrible but I hope he kills this nikka then punches him in the face.

I was a big fan of Cassidy in the early 00s.... I was a fan of the whole punchline rapper movement back then... Posta Boy, Shellz, Grafh (the nicest one for me at that time), Jae Hood, A-Team (Fab and them), Crooked I, Banks (even yayo was droppin' punchlines back then), etc...

I remember Cass was supposed to be the next big thing from the eastcoast with the ruff ryders cosign n everything for a while... His buzz was crazy back then... But his debut was very underwhelming and even tho he had bars he's not THE LEGEND or INFLUENTIAL ICON that he thinks he is... He was one of the big names from that movement tho, I'll give him that... and one of the few who blew up at some point... Only Fab and Banks remain relevant from that movement....

You from Philly? Nobody saw that shyt on the internet until 04/05, that's my point. Ain't nobody in Cassidy's era was influenced by him. Not, Fab, not Banks, not Kiss

Jada is who these nikkas really looked at...from Fab to Cass to the rest...

yep. theyre all little jadas at the end of the day.

jada wasnt 100% punchy like cass & fab tho.

and like @uncle grime said, fab didnt have that aggressive approach. so yea, now that i think about it, i agree that cassidy was the most influential to that specific sub-genre if i had to narrow it down. so i cant dispute it. cassidy's wording couldve been better, but then again, if he narrowed it down and listed names like this, it would come off type-disrespectful.

big l was the 1st punchline rapper using that punchline rap flow, since 95

it started in ny its facts

n cass always had elementary punchlines neway , wasnt that nice

:what:

i never said it started in philly. i was just commenting on cats claiming that fab was doing it before cassidy.

big l's mentor lord finesse was the 1st str8 up punchline rapper. big l got his whole entire style from finesse & pumped it with steroids. but this aint about that.

its about who kicked off the craze in the '00s. most of them dudes werent on big l like that and didnt even know who finesse was..

the cassidy/freeway tape hit the streets not long after it occurred. its basically what jumped off the whole dvd craze(too raw, smack, etc). and yea, it was on the internet back then too. at least the audio. i never checked for the video on the net, since i already saw it IRL, but im 99% sure the video was on the net too. and cass was known for battling long before that. it was prolly his last battle but not his 1st.

its not about influencing kiss, fab or banks. its basically about all the battle rappers & dvd types. cass had the most influence on them.

But Banks perfected it
It's funny cuz Banks said the same shyt in some old interview ama see if I can find it

why are you and the other bul steady pushing banks in here?

banks was ill but he wasnt influential like that.

I never heard Cassidy until like 2002 or 2003.

yes u did.

u dont remember when he was in larseny?

Fab dumbed down...Banks evolved past just punchline rap..wordplay..flows..etc etc..

yea. ur right. i unfairly grouped banks with fab.

banks didnt dumb down. hes just lost a few steps.

I might have my time frame off but did Juelz get his style from Cassidy?Always felt his style was a little bit Philly influenced?Id still have to say Juelz influenced more nikkas in the rap game than Cassidy outside of the battle scene.

ehh. juelz not really punchy like that. he just has so much wit that it feels like a punchline super-combo. i just remember hearing him for the 1st time on the backstage mixtape like :mindblown: him and camron were both coming with some chit that i never heard before. that was low-key the beginning of the dipset stuff. way before its time.

i never got around to checking juelz stuff with draft pick, so i cant say who he was influenced by.
