My heart goes out to them since I am a cat lover and owner so I know how stressed they are since they do want to keep the cat.
Only got rid of one cat in my lifetime and I actually named the cat Ted Bundy.
Cat would piss all over my feet when I would sit down at my computer desk or shyt in random places....then got to sexually assaulting my other two cats.
Lil nikka was a STONE COLD unapologetic rapist cat.
He could have been in a room with Harvey Weinstien and I am sure they would have got along well.
It was just too much man.
Put that little shyt in a cat crate and left him outside to cool down. 
Next morning dropped his ass off at a no-kill shelter and said "I just found this stray".
My cats were mad thankful after that. Some animals just aren't compatible with some people and are also under a lot of stress being in a pound so sometimes it's just easier to let them go.
