The crates said dried fruit from Colombia. There was no indication that they were holding tens of millions of dollars’ worth of cocaine but that is what federal agents said they discovered in the biggest coke bust in New York in a quarter century.

After what was described as a routine interdiction, the agents said they found 3,200 pounds of cocaine in a shipping container that arrived at the Port of New York and New Jersey on Feb. 28.

The drugs had an estimated street value of $77 million.

“This is a significant seizure, in fact it is the largest cocaine seizure at the Port of New York/Newark since May 1994,” said Troy Miller, director of Customs and Border Protection’s New York Field Operations.

The cocaine was concealed behind boxes of dried fruit, according to a source familiar with the seizure. The cargo ship arrived in Newark from Buena Ventura, Colombia, and its next stop was Antwerp, Belgium.

Authorities weren’t sure whether the cocaine was meant for the United States or Europe, the source said, but the seizure was lauded for keeping the drugs off the streets.

“Cocaine, New York’s nemesis of the 90s, is back-indicating traffickers push to build an emerging customer base of users mixing cocaine with fentanyl,” said DEA Special Agent in Charge Ray Donovan. “This record-breaking seizure draws attention to this new threat and shows law enforcement’s collaborative efforts in seizing illicit drugs before it gets to the streets and into users’ hands.”

Lol.. that's some top level informant.
77 mill - I didn't think cocaine was still being moved like that
:wtf:how did they think shipping 3,200 lbs of cocaine at one time, in a shipping container direct from a Colombian connect to NY/NJ was a good idea

About to be a few people "missing" and casualties - someone said too much to the wrong person for the feds to get this drop. 77million of Colombian cartel product.. pobrecito :francis::rip:
Naw, they only need 1 outta 10 of their shipments to hit and theyre on. Seized shipments are calculated into their overhead costs

That's 77 million though. $7 million - I could see that as the cost of doing business and charge that for what it is. I can't see them not holding people responsible for that loss.

Its sad what's going in Buena Ventura Colombia. Its an almost 100 percent Black City on the Pacific that happens to have the largest port on the Pacific.

So basically cartels have hijacked the city. And all the violence is cause by them. The local population has very little to do with any of that stuff. Cartels and paramilitaries fukking up a lot of Black towns and cities all over the Pacific and Choco region of Colombia:mjcry:

Roberto Saviano, dude who wrote the book 'Gommorah' wrote a book about the international cocaine trade called 'ZeroZeroZero.' Not the greatest read but it's still informative.

Tons of the shyt is moved all across the globe on the daily in shipping crates, etc.

Agree with both of you here.
Somebody's entire family will get wiped out because of this bust
AND
They factor losses like this into the cost of doing business.

I've never studied or looked into it, but the figure quoted from the article is the street value.
How much did it cost to grow and transport that coke to that leg of the distribution?

Regular markup for retail products is ridiculous ,so I wonder how much is coke marked up.

Even large busts like this only snag a tiny percentage of the drugs being moved.. I still think that every shipment that gets intercepted only drives up the street value of the stuff that goes through.
