Mike was still the best at that point but those quick guards like A.I., Damon Stoudamire, Abdul-Rauf could shake him.

Old Mike still had some duels with Marion, Kobe, T-Mac, etc.

Seeing him face rookie LBJ, Wade, Melo would have been dope.

Yeah, Melo fresh off a dominant freshman season and the national title at Syracuse.

Melo himself had a great rookie year, I wish they could have done co-RoY with him and LeBron like they did with Grant Hill and Kidd in '94.

Melo averaged 21/6/3 on 42/32/77 splits, Nuggets had a 26 win improvement and made the playoffs.

Pistons really fukked up not drafting Melo. They made at least the conference finals for 5 straight seasons imagine with Melo in the mix.

Always had an issue with this idea.

The Pistons had the second most successful run in franchise history over the next five seasons, and it's easy to say just add Melo and it would've been even better, but nobody really knows that. Not to mention who knows if they ever get Rasheed then, and Larry Brown probably would've been the worst possible option for Melo to grow under.

It's crazy the way people look at that play. Jordan got crossed by a point guard six plus inches shorter than him (who turned out to be a Hall of Famer with arguably the best cross of all-time by the way), who hit the jumper, and the defense Mike played was actually good (the recovery to contest at least). And people use this play to somehow downplay MJ lol, as though he wasn't still the best player in the league at the time and didn't end up winning the championship and should've won the MVP that very damn season.

One damn play lol. But of course that's really just a testament to his greatness that this is the "negative" play in that man's career.

Gotta remember at the time Bron was still a product of media hype so the players were probably tired of hearing about him by then. He was a big story for casual fans but the "serious" basketball minds weren't lining up to say how great he was.

Also this was the heart of the "NBA = Thugs" era. The perception of straight outta high school players was still mostly negative (despite reality). Especially a young tatted up hoodlum who was calling himself The King...

Yeah, but listen to guys now, after Lebron has racked up 4 MVPs, 3 Finals MVPs, the GOAT Finals performance, and on the way to every career and playoff stat record, and they like,
