U.S. Attorneys across the country are under the authority of the DOJ and are hired and fired by the president/attorney general of the nation.

However, for the central authority of the DOJ to interfere in an individual case would be extraordinary, especially if there was a conflict of interest.

In the case of the SDNY the US Attorney has recused himself from the case so his deputy is handling it. I would bet right now those investigations are going to be seen all the way through .
