Chad’s president Idriss Déby dies ‘on battlefield’, military says
Ca c'est fou! Penses-tu que sa mort s'est arrivee comme ca? @Liu Kang
I was just reading about his re-election and the rebels advances the other day. Went from 0 to 100 very quick. If true, its wild that a President was on the frontlines, dude took his Marshall title too seriously.
Yeah I don't get how a president just gets on the frontlines in 2021. I know the Chad army is seen as very good and has been one the main forces in Sahel against jihadists so dude might have think he was somehow safe around it. Weird anyway.
Dunno more about man's death. Just that it happened over the week end and the rebels had communicated about gim being injured then but there was no official word until today.
I saw this, this morning on Democracy Now and my mind was blown.
damn what a headline
i don't believe this. just trying to make a dictator look tough in death.
My mind is blown just reading the headline
pretty wild this could be potentially really destabilizing for the region
wasn't Chad one of the main forces that helped blunt Boko Haram's advances when they were running wild in that subregion a few years back?
Yeah, they're one of the stronger militaries.... by the sounds of it they were fighting insurgencies on multiple fronts and helping other countries deal with extremism
Damn that is actually crazy
this was yesterday. Aged like milk
He was killed by his own troops from how I interpreted it. He himself had the mother and child of his opponent murdered during the election.
I read this in the Times like 10 minutes ago. The President dying in that manner is pretty extreme even for countries with decades long civil wars.
Something is suspicious about this. Independent observors said they can't confirm this account of his death.
