Kelly, who is recovering from ACL and wrist surgery and has endured questions about his character due to a sketchy past, was selected by the Denver Broncos with the 253rd overall pick, making him the final player taken in the draft.
Kelly knew he might be in for a long wait to hear his name called during the three-day event, so he decided to take a unique approach to prepare for long road ahead.
He slept on the floor by his couch. For two nights.
“I wanted to feel like what it would feel like to be at the bottom,” Kelly said during an interview with the Buffalo News. “I could have slept in a bed, of course, but I wanted to feel that stuff inside me. That itch. And every single day I kept thinking that I was going to be picked. But, you know, everything worked out and I’m just blessed to be a part of a great franchise.”
