JJK really soaked up the criticism for how bad chainsaw man part 2 has been :francis:

once denji became a major player again the quality nose dived and that was relatively quickly into it

just a bunch of flash no substance moments, introductions of characters and never really fleshing them out, denji's complete lack of development as a character where there is no excuse to get as braindead manipulated as he consistently does unless he is an actual high support needed autistic
I call bullshyt now on all the people saying Part 2 was always planned.

  • Compared to the deaths of Aki and Power, Nayuta's death had 0 impact. She could have been a huge character for Denji and Fujimoto did nothing with her.
  • Wtf is Fujimoto trying to do with both Fami and Death? People are coping if Part 3 is planned, but wtf is this with just 1 chapter left? People say Part 1 is better binged, which is true, but the transition from the International Assassins Arc into Gun Devil got hella people invested. It still was a great weekly read if you read chapter by chapter.
  • Asa is probably the best character in Part 2, and she got sidelined by both Denji and Yoru. Denji was a nothing burger mostly. Yoru is fine, and war as a concept is interesting. But she just had nothing on Makima.
  • The overall cast compared to Part 1 is fukking trash. I don't remember any new characters besides Asa. They all are forgettable fodder.
Fujimoto should have just made Asa's arc in the beginning of Part 2 as a self-contained spinoff, and it would have worked perfectly. If they continue

The funniest thing with Part 2 is how much blind praise Fujimoto gets. He is a very eccentric mangaka and his raw ideas are great, but as shown with part 2, sometimes he doesn't know what to do with the ingredients. The one thing with the JJK fanbase is at least they can be very critical of Gege which he deserves. The funniest thing is in Part 2 you had the Chainsaw Man Church Arc, which was in a way him mocking his own fanbase :dead:.

The fanbase putting him on the tier of some of the legendary mangaka like Naoki, Arakawa, Toriyama, Noda, Miura, Araki etc. Hell, he isn't on the tier of Satoru Noda (Golden Kamuy) and Q Hayashida (Dorohedo). Chainsaw Man Pt. 1 is a good work, and it's a great deconstruction of a Shounen story. It's not something I would call at least great like the rest of these guys that I have mentioned.

The frustrating part is that they didn't have to be. He just dumped them and wasted their potential or forgot about them entirely. Fami and Death had a chance to be a really fun combo of personalities. Fumiko's power is actually pretty cool, and could have made her a lot more interesting. Nayuta was a great idea that he had no idea how to make use of, nerfed, and killed. Barem popping back up for Denji to crush in a second could have become memorable if they did the gag more than once.

Even the interesting characters from Part One lost all their best parts. Yoshida was a waste of space and Quanxi's cameo was cool but still just a poor-man's version of her first appearance.

And I can't get over the last arc being completely confused about who the villain was gonna be:
First it's Death, but then Death is actually Fami, then Death says it's Yoru, then Chainsaw Man saves Yoru from Death but it really was Yoru, then they go to hell and fight Pestilence together, then it's Yoru again, but then Yoru shows empathy for Asa and makes a deal with Denji. Then everyone on Earth gets eaten by creatures that reproduce rapidly without death to stop them. Then we get the most recent chapter where Denji's been eaten by a devil. :ohlawd:

The past 30 chapters or so made me realize I don't give a flying fukk about Denji anymore. I don't care about any of the characters really, because Fujimoto just uses them to drive home a point for a couple of chapters and then repeats a cycle to either repeat the same point or make a new one.

Halfway through Part 2 I realized there's no real big story to "salvage" in a future arc or a Part 3. This is Fuji's playground to vent about the shyt that bothers him or entertains him. There's no big payoff, he doesn't write for one, imo. He has ideas/themes in mind and going on a journey to show them in manga form. It's kind of a masochist version of Hideaki Anno's depressed self in the 90's, lmao.

I don't think Part 1 was mid. The level of praise/enjoyment will always vary depending on each reader but Part 1 had a clear direction and all the satiric/meta stuff hit way better than Part 2. Going from WSJ to Jump+ gave Fuji more time to rest and more leeway in the amount of content each chapter has, but the lack of editing is evident in Part 2. It's pretty clear no one wants to reign him in anymore.
:sas1:

It's all about the themes breh, Fuji does not give a fukk about plot or characters in CSM anymore.

Breh, months ago you yourself were putting him in "best in the business" lists :dead:

I have to admit I was wrong. He was coming off CSM Pt. 1, Look Back and Goodbye Eri. (Latter 2 Oneshots before CSM Pt. 2), along with Asa's, are at the beginning of Pt. 2. I kind of thought maybe this shyt would be better when binged since the weekly release is beyond slow. But it's clear as day Fujimoto had no idea what he wanted to do with this story. Which was blind faith for what he has done in the past rather than looking at Part 2 of itself,.

This shyt is worse than JJK's ending at this pace and could be worse than Oshi no Ko. Which is saying a lot. It's at a point I have no desire to revisit CSM Pt. 2 contents until the anime gets here because of how good the adaptation is.

I assume the final chapter will be something regarding. Yoru and Asa. Though I can't see how it is salvageable with it being the end of the world.
