I just watched dave's diatribe on this.

he signed a bad deal with comedy central for chappelle's show which is totally on him. and whomever can air his show as long as they pay viacom.

that said, the ONLY reason that netflix pulled his show is not cuz they are nice guys. they are too worried about pissing him off and NOT getting any more original stand up specials. so when dave talks about netflix being nice guys, it comes off as disingenuous. netflix simply knows where their bread is buttered.

i semi disagree with this, while yes at the end of the day netflix did not 100 % do this to be nice, they also could have simply said no. and yea dave could have left, but where we he have taken his next specials? Hulu? amazon? neither of them at this point have anywhere near as established comedy streaming catalog as netflix does and obviously he is not going to anyone related to HBO or Viacom . Dave am sure brings in $ for them but not all the $$ on the stand up comedy side. More than anything this was chess move in hopes that viacom follows through and gives dave his rights to use his characters back (which i think in the long term is bigger than the money he is owed) and then he will do chappelle show on netflix which will be bigger than the first.

Agreed, and Netflix seems to know where their bread is buttered because they sided with Dave. Makes sense, I would feel some type of way about doing business with someone who is also doing business with a person fukked me over in the past.

I think it's bigger than Netlfix and their revenue from comedy.

I think it's more about Black empowerment and those in the Black community bringing corporations to task. Yes, Netflix didn't do it to be nice but they did it because, in my opinion, the Black community is done playing nice.
