I haven't watched this yet, but I had heard that the pressure of trying to maintain such a quality show got to him. At some point most good shows start to fall off and he didn't want to be part of that.

Respect to Dave either way. He's intelligent, makes fun of himself, along with jokes about social issues all the while dropping knowledge that makes you think.

Those final episodes that were finally aired weren't as good as the stuff from the first 2 seasons.

He gets 50 mil but if the show does, lets say, six seasons - Comedy Central cashes out way MUCH more than he would. I dont blame him. Dave is an intelligent guy, much smarter than they probably thought.

I'm guessing he would also have to give up creative control of the show and have to cater to whatever vision the suits have for the show - which could be a disaster when you're dealing with controversial topics as he did. A lot of skits centered on race and in the wrong hands it would turn into a minstrel show - easily. They'd want him shuckin & buckdancin every episode.

That show was his baby. His vision, blood, sweat and tears. It's his creation, but it's business at the end of the day. Fam is an artist and creativity is key, but OWNERSHIP over those creative ideas is first and foremost.

But what is he doing now to make up for that missing 50 million? Sure CC would have caked more but now nobody is getting money.

If it was about the creative vision then yeah there could be a problem but it couldn't just be that CC was gonna make a lot more money because Dave loses out more by bouncing if that was the only hang up.

Just watched the whole thing and if what Neil says is true it means that basically Dave is just an egotistical insecure d1ck and the fact that we no longer have the Chappelle show anymore is because of Dave and his ego. Dave probably realized this and instead of accepting and acknowledging his own mistakes (like burning bridges with his longterm partner over money) he decides to go to Africa and quit the show.


The fact that the Chappelle show no longer exist is proof that Dave couldn't do the show without him
