hey, I don't want to be taken the wrong way. Cuz I'm a Jay fan. Always have been. But ppl act like he is absolutely untouchable when it comes to talking about him.
To me that is what makes him so overrated by many people. Because he has flaws that STANS just don't wanna see.

IMO, Nas is and always has been my favorite MC. Is he untouchable? hell no. Dude has taken some L's and has put out some wack songs as well.

Biggie? same thing...even though TBH, he actually has the BENEFIT of having a smaller catalogue. Cuz his flaws haven't been displayed as much. Which is what keeps him in those conversations. Because what he DOES have out is dope as fukk. IMO, if Biggie was alive and kept putting out material like that he would be the ALL TIME GOAT, but that is just based off of assumptions.

Which to me, makes biggie as another dude that gets way over rated. he had no longevity, which is very unfortunate for him and us as the fans. But it ain't fair to put him in that same convo.

But why are dudes really acting like Drake couldn't or shouldn't be compared to Jay?

they are a lot more similar than not
Putting the ghostwriting & reference tracks aside for a second, if he wants to be compared, he has to face the same level of scrutiny as Jay, and he largely hasn't. So he shouldn't be compared unless his career goes under that same microscope. And when it does, it doesn't add up, so he really can't be compared.

Drake has lived in the Lil Wayne/Eminem bubble of non-rap fans being their biggest part of their fanbase. Plus he's in the most forgiving era of rap ever. That means he's been able to skate past a lot of the scrutiny other top tier rappers have had to endure. He's managed to thrive despite a lot of bad moments that wouldn't fly in other eras. Drake couldn't have survived in any other era but this one.

And Jay couldn't have survived any of those things in his era, much less thrived the way Drake has. Jay had to walk a tightrope to remain relevant and at the top. Same for all the other greats. People were calling Nas a sellout when he dropped It Was Written. Reasonable Doubt got 4 mics in the same year and was called unoriginal. That's how high the pressure was.

Drakes a goof, but I never thought Jay had "swag".He always comes off a bit awkward to me.

Camron was the only person to call him out on it.

He's a rapping robot/ business, man!

tho:ld:

Music is art. There is no song structure. Stop making shyt up to prop up a weak drake song. Not even a good one. Some one might read your post and think you know what your talkin bout. This shyt is evil to me. Trying to limit music formats on some weirdo homo shyt.
Im not tryna do none of that all im saying is I can understand why someone feels sixteen is better than summer cuz sixteen appeals to more focused song structure compared to dear summer

Repetition in music is one of the most important aspects in all great music of old and "new"
Sixteen utilizes that through an actual hook utilizing melody

Dear summer is moreso Jay spitting hot fire
Nobody is limiting music nikka
all im doing is dear summer and summer sixteen cant be compared because one is moreso a freestyle
the other is more of an actual song

this is actually a tough one because they're both in my top 3 for WOAT rappers

I'd say Drake has the edge tho, because Jay-Z has some songs that are listenable

Imporvision is also a staple in music stop it. Song structure has nothing to do with it. Music is subjective. You can't apply terms like "focus" and "structured." What you really mean is formulaic for summer sixteen.

Dear Summer >>>>>> Summer Sixteen

Dear Summer is maybe a top 5 most underrated Jay-Z track.

That being said Jay is in a lane of his own made from over 20 years of hard work, Drake has been in the game serious what, 7 or 8 years? You can't compare Drake (or really any other rapper) to what guys like Jay or Nas have done.

even Havoc (of Mobb Deep) said that what Drake has over Jay-Z is that he got on faster than him.
