It doesn't promote racial ideas. It does tell stories of where people went wrong thinking they were better than another tribe of people. Take the Israelites and Samaritans for example. They didn't want anything to do with the Samaritans, but Jesus sought out the Samaritan woman at the well. He was criticized by his own tribe of people for doing it. Everything in the book isn't promoted. It's telling a story of history.

Moses was criticized for the dark woman he chose to wife. This is nothing new. We see it today. The point of all of it is to learn the lesson that no one is perfect and we needed a Savior...Who happens to also be the Creator.
